    trying to help a friend resurrect a 70 diesel. We had it running but had no oil pressure. After digging awhile we found a broken oil pump drive shaft... Is that a weak point on these ?...no water in the oil to freeze it but I don't know it's history...

    1957 420 john Deere back fires on start up.

    OK, someone who knows more help me here. Did you reverse the plug wires by chance ? I know on the Waterloo tractors that it will make it fire but not run. I am not certain the vertical two cylinders are the same.
