    Electronic ignition for magneto?

I've also wondered about an electronic ignition kit for these magnetos. I know the magnetos on small engines for the past several years are electronic. Seems like there would be a sizeable market for someone to introduce a conversion kit.

    1850 engine miss

I have an 1850 with the perkins diesel I recently purchased and it has a slight miss at higher RPMs. It runs just fine up to about 3/4 throttle and then it starts to flutter, or miss slightly. It's not bad enough to cause a loss of power, but I can here it and see small puffs of smoke. I do...

    video of my tractor

CCR and old John Deere tractors go very well together. I enjoyed it very much and they brought back some memories. Good luck on your project and keep the videos coming!

    water in oil

Has the tractor been out in the rain or have you pressure washed it lately? If not, do you have the brass push rod tubes or the original iron ones? I had to change out my tubes after finding water in the oil. You can verify the push rod tubes by pulling the valve cover. If you still have...

Model A - Valve train issues

I tend to agree with you PatB on this. After more observations, I can see there's a bit of an angle where the pushrod meets the rocker arm that shouldn't be there and the valve stem makes contact at the edge of the rocker surface instead of the center. I'll start looking for some washers to...

Model A - Valve train issues

When the push rod starts opening the valve you can see a shiney area where its rubbing against the inside of the push rod tube. I've never noticed this before - I'm guessing it's been like this for some time. Does this appear to be normal?

Model A - Valve train issues

I kept hearing loud ticking noises coming from the valve cover area and thought I'd adjust the valve lash. While getting ready to adjust the valves I see where the two inner push rods are rubbing the outer sides of the push rod tubes (see picture). Do you use shims to fix this and if so does...

    brass push rod sleaves

As far as the particulars in changing out the tubes in a "B," I'm not sure. However, I replaced my push rod tubes last year with the head on my 1937 A. I searched this and other sites for necessary instructions. I was able to pinpoint the leak to the old tubes and with a head gasket costing...

    Governors

I must have selectively deleted some of the cost associated with this tractor project from my memory and I'm not sure I want to guess and then leave something out. IF you have the mechanical ability......you will save money and know for sure the quality of workmanship if you do it yourself. I...

    Governors

I ordered a video from Robert's Carb Repair that shows how to repair the governor. It was very helpful when it came time to rebuild the governor on my old "A." Hope this helps!]
