1850 engine miss

I have an 1850 with the perkins diesel I recently purchased and it has a slight miss at higher RPMs. It runs just fine up to about 3/4 throttle and then it starts to flutter, or miss slightly. It's not bad enough to cause a loss of power, but I can here it and see small puffs of smoke. I do not know the history of the tractor. Anyone have any ideas about what could be wrong or what to look for? Thanks

That is caused by loose injection pump drive. most of the 1850's had a short splined shaft between the pump and it's drive gear and when the male and female splines on both ends wore enough it caused a timing flutter. The later tractors had a slightly different design and the problem was eliminated. Oliver even had a conversion package to update the earlier tractors. Honestly, it dosen't hurt a thing, usually goes away under load, and it's more work and expense than you'd think to change one over to the new style. It's just a annoying.

There is also a bronze gear within there the drives the pump from the idler shaft. If you need that let me know i have one just setting there. Ten Buck its yours + Actual shipping

Thanks, but I think I'll let it go for now. I don't think it's hurting anything so I'm going to wait until I have time for an overhaul.
