    Engine Spun Backwards?

    Thank you all for the responses. I tried to start it yesterday and it did not try to fire at all. When I stopped cranking it, gas drizzled out of the carburetor for a few seconds. I towed it back to the shop and will check the timing and compression before I do anything else.

    Well, I wouldn't say the sound it made was like metal being sheared or cam shafts breaking but the timing gear thing would explain why it won't start again. If it doesn't start again when I get home tonight I guess I'll have to tow it to the shop and start disassembling.

    Today was a good day! Finally get her to run! I rebuilt the carb, reset the timing and it wouldn't quite go. I loosened the hold down bolts on the distributor and turned it a little at a time until it fired up and ran. Was able to drive it around the yard a little before it died again...
