    2008 5103 brakes

Good morning everyone. I"ve been volunteered to help a friend fix the brakes on his 5103. The consensus from the dealer mechanics are that the final drives need to come off to change the brakes and their springs. I"ve never pulled finals on a John Deere and I can"t find an diagrams on the...

    520 on evilbay

Well, I cannot say what has been done to it, as I only saw the posting after it closed and didn't get the details. I am not offended by the price, but I certainly would never pay that much, primarily because if it is that nice, I wouldn't want to move it of the shed!! But that's just me. I...

My apologies for the blurry pic, it's not that bad on my phone. Must have happened in the upload.

    Tractor Seat

I found a parts tractor with this seat on it. The guy who has it says a guy told him it was a JD seat. That is possible, but I have never seen one like it on a two cylinder. Anybody have an idea where this seat is from?

    A Powerlift Serial Number

Hey, thanks for the help. As of yet, I do not have a parts book, but I do plan to get one. I'll keep working at trying to date this thing, but I believe that the 41/42 ballpark is right. In the meantime, I'll just keep working at cleaning it up and hopefully next summer I can get it running...

    1945 (hand start) Model A Serial #554698

Yeah, that's right. They were "all fuel" tractors, made to start on gas and then once the engine was hot, switch over to a heavier fuel. Distilate was one of the heavy fuels, though I am not really familiar with what it was. I believe kerosene also would have worked. My dad told me that my...

    A Powerlift Serial Number

My mistake, having looked at it again, it is not one cast peice. I have crankcase cover A2232R and the oil fill A2233R, which bolts onto it. The cap screws onto the oil fill.

    A Powerlift Serial Number

Thanks. You certainly have a wealth of information! I could not tell you whether the tag is steel or not. As far as reading it, it is worn smooth right through the numbers. I will look it over again to see if I can pull anything more out of it. I have noticed that most of the late 40's...

    A Powerlift Serial Number

Hmmmm. My PL number might be wrong, the tag is cracked between PL and the numbers. Would PL 72599 be possible? It cannot be a 36, it is a slantdash. The case number is A2644R and right next to that is a 26, nothing following that. I have tried getting a rubbing off the serial plate, but I...

    A Powerlift Serial Number

Does anyone have an A with a Powerlift serial # near PL2599? If so, do you know what year yours is? I am trying to ballpark the date of my tractor due to an unreadable serial plate. Thanks.

    A questions.

Thanks a ton! Your input has been very helpful. I'll certainly keep you in mind if I run into any problems. Btw, I'll attach a pic here. Aside from a very bad paint job, the old girl looks pretty good!

    A questions.

Thanks for the help. I always thought that the A's switched from the 4 speed trans to the 6 speed trans in the 1940 model year. I realize now that is not the case. Just to clarify what you posted for Confused A, 1939 would be the old head and 1940 would have had a new head? Is that correct...
