    I am trying to finish restoring my dads 8n and have a question. When I disassembled the tractor it had a square bracket that held the battery in place. Wanting to make everything correct I purchased a battery cover and am afraid that it will short out to the battery terminal and cause an issue...

    Thanks for the advice, used a gas axe and heated it up very light taps with hammer removed it and set new gear on flywheel and heated until I could start gear by hand (using welding gloves) then heated until light taps installed the gear.

    My starter sometimes makes a grinding sound like the teeth did not engage the flywheel gear. The starter has been rebuilt with new gear. I have a flywheel gear ordered, anyone know how to remove the old gear and install the new one?

    I really appreciate all of the feedback, even from the police. I did not mean to start a holy war. The reason I did it the way I did was I like it and did the best given my knowledge (first restore) I tried to learn from this site and others but did not always know where to find some answers...

    Anyone know why it has 2 pulleys at the fan end. I did not think a serial # 671742 should have a water pump.

    51 Model A steering binding

    I have a recently restored 51 model a and when I re-inserted the steering wheel shaft it acts like it is locking up or really binding. I cannot turn the wheel when it is sitting still. Any ideas?
