    4440 Bulkhead Connectors

Yes, definitely loosen the bolt to remove the connector. Last summer my A/C quit working, and I traced it down to that connector. went to remove it and noticed the bolt was already loose. On a whim I decided to tighten it instead of removing it. A/C started working immediately and has ever...

    Splitting a 1520/1530

I have a friend who fabricated a simple set of splitting stands, just two pieces of heavy angle iron, one for each side. Holes were cut for the two bolts that go into the side of the engine block rear flange (slots, actually to accommodate different heights), and a large caster welded to the...

    John deere 2640 fuel gauge

Jerry can probably fix the original. Look him up per the link and give him a call and ask.

    installing new cylinder liner O-Rings

I ran into this recently rebuilding a 1020 and again on a 2020. Serial number breaks, as already mentioned, are the issue. MAKE SURE your new liners match your old ones in every way, or they won't fit your block. But you are correct, they have packings/o-rings with three to a pack, and only one...

    JD 1020 Timing help needed

Guitar player/part-time tractor mechanic here too. I also just rebuilt a 1020. The hole in the flywheel for the timing pin is just a divot - a hole that only goes partially through. Assuming you're having trouble finding it, if you have a D-style Roosa Master pump, you remove the two screws...

    JD 2640 Drag Link

If you are using an aftermarket drag link, the fitting will rub on the clutch linkage rod when depressed, possibly shearing the fitting. The drag link from Deere has a fitting angled vertically instead of horizontally, and doesn't rub. I have one of each. On the aftermarket one, I screw in a...

    4440 Attenuator Hydraulic Hose Leak

That was exactly where I found it and was able to access it and get it replaced. Thanks again.

    4440 Attenuator Hydraulic Hose Leak

Excellent! Thanks so much. I had looked into the steering pedestal cowl inside the cab but didn't see it. I haven't removed the plate you're talking about yet but I did get the mat out so I was ready to start removing floor plates anyway to get to the other end at the accumulator.

    4440 Attenuator Hydraulic Hose Leak

I'm trying to find out where the upper/forward end of hose #5 goes and how to get to it.

    4440 Hy gard on belts

I made one that works on regular garden hose: 2 ft. length of 1/2" PVC with cap glued on one end and a garden hose coupler and inline ball valve glued on the other. On the capped end, drill a hole perpendicular to the pipe axis (maybe 3/16-ish diameter). Screw it onto a hose, insert the wand...

    4440 Hy gard on belts

Old timers used to liberally sprinkle Bon Ami (household cleanser) powder on slipping belts. Has worked for me as well.

    4440 Attenuator Hydraulic Hose Leak

1980 4440 Quad Range with hydraulic seat. Following forward from the seat valve on the back of the cab, a hose going to that valve crosses over the transmission and connects to a tee on top of the attenuator under the right side of the cab. The hose connected to the other (front) side of that...

New to Tractors - Looking at 2440

Hmmm... You know these tractors better than I, but I always thought the later version beginning with sn 341000 and built from 1980-1982 were built in Mannheim. I have one of the earlier ones (below 340999) and it is definitely from Dubuque. TractorData.com lists the production below 340999...
