Basic variations. I don't know what to think.

Thanks to all for help with my recent carb rebuild problems. It seems to be running well, perhaps best in 40 years! Today's stupid topic: I have been seeing photographs of 2, 8, and/or 9 N's with engines seemingly reversed, i.e. with the intake and exhaust on the left side! I thought there must...

    Problems after carb rebuild

Without definitely knowing the cause of my problems, they seem to have resolved. It will be several more tests over a few days to be sure, but I am hoping they don't return. It may be running smoother than it did over most of forty years, but being able to retain the reliability I counted on...

    Problems after carb rebuild

I think I have gotten the needle valve leak under control. It will leak a little over night but not enough to cuse running problems. Now it might start easily and run nicely for five minutes or so. Then stopping it means no restart. Tuens out that the carb is thoroughly flooded at this point...

    Problems after carb rebuild

Main jet tube? Does have any effect on fuel level or needle valve closure? What I have is a constant c.10ml fuel leak per 24 hours. This is not enough to cause performance problems but a PITA if I forget to turn off the gas when it is going to sit. I was spoiled by 40 + years of not having...

Amazingly smooth for 78 years old. But I will check again. Thanks

    Problems after carb rebuild

Close to two weeks later, this thing is still resisting us. I have always used the technique of replacing (or changing the setting of) a problem part one thing at a time to pinpoint the culprit. This started out with a comprehensive carb rebuild and a dozen or more disassemblies and reassemblies...

    Problems after carb rebuild

Thanks soaked, I would have used the tap route if I had one, but I realized the washer was loose after my first attempt and gradually got it tightened down enough to stop a leak. That left several more days of trying to find where the new stuff was leaking. I made a jig where I could work on the...

    Problems after carb rebuild

I have had my 8N for about half its life and it has served me well, but not a lot recently. When it had trouble starting (and then not at all) I sent for the comprehensive rebuild kit sold here. The rebuild (petty sure its first one) went smoothly and it started and ran really well afterward...

    Oil pressure at start-up

TOH: I appreciate your input. What are the chances the problem is a loose pick-up rather than wear? I've read that that can be diagnosed through the pan drain plug. Can it be fixed that way? What does oil pump R&R and rebuild entail? Keep in mind this is a 70+ year old tractor with a 80+ year...

    Oil pressure at start-up

Two more tries at the gauge, no luck. Two tries at the pressure relief valve, second one worked and got pressure! Thanks for your help.

    Oil pressure at start-up

OK, found the 15/16th bolt, AKA oil relief valve, masquerading as a timing cover bolt. Will try that route after gauge line.

    Oil pressure at start-up

Thanks. I tried that just before calling it a day yesterday. I got two or three ounces down the pipe, but it didn't come back up. Going to try again. How much oil minimum? How fast?. I did not locate the big front plug yet. Seems kind of tight in there (fan belt, etc.) for any operations.
