    Late 4020D starting-12 volt

Check the resistance on all battery cables, We just had this problem on a 69 3020. Cables looked good but had two bad ends. Check for a good ground on transmission case. I have moved the ground connection from a top cover bolt to a battery box support bolt. On these 50-60 year old machines, poor...

    plow keeps tripping

If the spring "H" in Tyler"s post is broken, the roller will jump up out of it"s notch and the bottom will trip. Had this happen on a F145H, not a rollover, but probably the same system.

    2510-4020 Front Weights

There is no corresponding hole in the tractor frame for the tapered cultivator alignment pins. The pins would be further to the rear for aligning the cultivator. The starter weights slide over the front studs and onto a loosley installed bolt at the rear, so the tapered pins would be in the...

    Wiring diagrams, 1972 4020

I have 4020 #254532 with one light in each fender. Plate in fender that lights mount to has "dimple" for 2nd light, but no hole for 2nd mounting bolt. 69 year had 2 headlights in ea fender. One light with foot operated dimmer switch came along in 70 or 71. Jim

1960 john deere 404 display engine

I remember when the 8430-8630s came out, the local dealer invited some of his customers to go to Chanute, KS to an introduction to the tractors. The display was in the National Guard Armory. There was a cutaway of the engine, hydraulic pump, transmission, axles and planetary gears. All...

    Anyone know what this is?

Dang thing must weigh close to 200 lb. I used to pick mine up and put it on the tractor, but it"s gotten heavier over the years and I used the chain hoist the last time I mounted it. Jim

    Adjusting mounted plow

It may not be trip pressure that needs adjustment. If the latch arm,( the part with the roller on the front ) and a grease zerk in the oval hole on the side does not re-latch when you manually trip it with an adjustable wrench. It should have spring pressure to return it to the latched...

    4020 sychro adjustment

Might just be the clevises on the shifter rods from the shifter under the dash to the transmission. Jim

    Cab heater

I replaced the leaking heater in my Gleaner F with a unit from NAPA several years ago. Turned out to be made in Ohio by the same company that made the origional. Measures about 10 x 10 x 10 inches. Compleat unit cost less than a new core from Agco. Jim

more john deere chain saw pics

Looks like my 60V except the top cover that is black on your saw is yellow on mine with black letering. I think the 60 and 70 are the same except for bore and/or stroke. Jim

    john deere chain saw

I'll check, but I think my manual covers 50, 60, and 70V saws. 60 and 70V look very much alike if I remember right. Jim

    john deere chain saw

A 60V or 70V will have a decompression lever to the right of the top cover and a chrome metal ring on the left side around the starter rope. A 50V will not have these features. I have a 50V that has Echo 425 parts and ID on it after being ran over by a pickup. Jim

    4020 injector return tubes

I modified a pair of common "CeeTee" pliers by drilling a hole in the end of the jaws and another crossways in the jaws. Works pretty good if I can find them. Jim

4030 Tachometer reading faster than normal

I have a 69 3020 with over 10,000 hrs. The tach has read 500 rpm high since I got it. (300 hrs)The hour meter reads correctly . I just live with it. Jim
