    Won't stop Cranking

Well, it definitely wasn't cold. Been in the 90's to 100 for weeks where we are. The only weather-related event was getting 3 inches of rain the day before.

    Won't stop Cranking

MF 175. Perkins Gas. 1969 model So I go to start the tractor and it cranks a little sluggish. Turn the switch off and go to crank again still sluggish but when i turn off the key - it keeps cranking. Had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. By the time I got that done the solenoid...

    Oil Fill

Quick simple question.... Is this the oil fill location on my Perkins AG4-236 engine? I'm assuming yes, but prefer to ask. Did not find in the manuals

    Steering cylinder leak

Back on this project after many delays. Tom, thank you for the pictures and instructions. Can you, clarify how you got the clevis end loose since we can't get to the holes as per the service manual? I've tried pushing the clevis in and grabbing the far end with vise grips. No luck. Then...

    Steering cylinder leak

Quick question. Steering cylinder leaks at this seal. The cap appears to be riveted. Has anyone repaired this or is it better to replace the unit? My son thinks I should just use some liquid weld to seal it up. I'm thinking he has a point. Thoughts?

    MF-175 Gasoline timing question.

SUCCESS!!!:thankyou: Still a bit rough - Flow is about 2/3 of a pint a minute. I chalk that up to the cheap paper in line filter which I will change out for now and upgrade later. Thank you everyone for your help. I learn so much here!!

    MF-175 Gasoline timing question.

RE: the solenoid, while the tractor was originally equipped with one it is disconnected now and the hole is just plugged. The only fuel shutoff is on the main sediment bowl at the tank. That may be a good point. I've noted before that if there isn't a good amount of gas in the tank it can act...

    MF-175 Gasoline timing question.

Yessir. We had it running when we pulled it in for the work last August. (Never thought it would take this long.) Never touched the carburetor except to disconnect linkage for splitting the tractor. That's why I don't understand. I did clean the tank while waiting for clutch parts, but...

    MF-175 Gasoline timing question.

Well still no luck. but I'm beginning to think I'm going nuts. (or nuttier). Popped started fluid in her this morning with a full choke and throttle at mid-range. Fired off the starter fluid and then died. Tried the trick of putting gas in two cylinders and the same thing. Popped on...

    MF-175 Gasoline timing question.

Thanks for all the replies. Though I try to logic my way through these things. It's nice to have the input/direction of others with more experience. I will be pursuing the suggestions and report back. Have a great Sunday.

    MF-175 Gasoline timing question.

So if I hear you correctly, it's possible to get ignition with a weak spark + starter fluid but then no ignition with gasoline?

    MF-175 Gasoline timing question.

Thanks everyone for the help. Ok - an update. ran through everything again and timing looks fine. Used some starter fluid and she fires but still doesn't start. So, my mind thinking - could it still be an issue of the engine being flooded and should I just wait and try again tomorrow, or...

    MF-175 Gasoline timing question.

Went through the steps outlined by Jim.ME above. Everything looks OK there. So then crank a bit, move the distributor, crank a bit - move the distributor... Still haven't been able to get her to kick over. I'm wondering if I'm flooding the engine and so even if I'm positioned right, I'm not...
