Steering cylinder leak

Quick question.
Steering cylinder leaks at this seal. The cap appears to be riveted. Has anyone repaired this or is it better to replace the unit?
My son thinks I should just use some liquid weld to seal it up. I'm thinking he has a point.
Thoughts?

Those are drive screws. you remove them to remove the cap for repairs. Best to replace with new or add a small drop of blue Loctite if reusing. There are replaceable seals for that valve/cylinder. If you check out the online parts book, (I previously gave you a link to) on page 198, they are shown. Your service manual should have the info on overhauling it.

I repaired mine several years ago. The leak at metal cover is from either the
o-ring or excessive spool wear. I'll try to post pictures.

Back on this project after many delays.

Tom, thank you for the pictures and instructions. Can you, clarify how you got the clevis end loose since we can't get to the holes as per the service manual?
I've tried pushing the clevis in and grabbing the far end with vise grips. No luck.
Then I tried grinding a slot in the end to stick a screwdriver in. Again, no luck.
Thought about JB Welding a piece on the bar on the end - or maybe a nut.
Suggestions Anyone?

(Note _ I don't have access to a welder)

Thanks

I pulled the seal out (destroying it). Then using my Dental picks to unwind the Spiral snap ring, patience required. Then was able to pull the spool out as an assembly towards the dust cover. Make sure there are NO burs on the clevis that might score the valve body. It's been over ten years now, so might have forgotten something. Good Luck.
