MF 265 PTO won't stay engaged

I was wondering if anyone would have any ideas? My Massey Ferguson 265 with a live PTO (two stage clutch and no ground pto) has started having an issue. The other night I was using it with a brush hog and the PTO began disengaging itself. The lever would fall out of gear. I unhooked from the...

    Carter UT 2612S Carburetor Question

Okay, thanks. That's a big help. I'll have a look around and see if I can find some of the graphite impregnated string. I bet it also served as a lubricant for the needle.

    Carter UT 2612S Carburetor Question

Hi, I'm trying to overhaul a Carter UT carburetor. It appears to be a 2612s and I was wondering if anyone was familiar with this carburetor? Specifically, I am puzzled about the high-speed needle assembly. I removed the needle screw and its nut. Behind it was fibrous bushing. In the...

    Ferguson 40 Exhaust Manifold

I have an important question about these manifolds. What is the square head screw in the middle top of the manifold? Is there a source for these screws?

    Ferguson 40 Exhaust Manifold

I finally succeeded in removing the broken manifold from my F-40. It was impossible until I removed the fuel tank and heat shield. Once all of that was out of the way it was fairly easy. Speaking of the fuel tank; when I took it off, I discovered one of the rubber pads at the front of the...

    Ferguson 40 Exhaust Manifold

I have another question in addition to the one about the new manifolds. Can the heat shield above the manifold be removed? It seems as if though it is held in place by a housing bolt and two clips. I've loosened 4 of the manifold nuts but the upper rear nut hasn't relented yet and broken free.

    Ferguson 40 Exhaust Manifold

Thanks for the advice already posted. I am curious how different are the new manifolds? Are the holes in the wrong place?

    Ferguson 40 Exhaust Manifold

Hi, I am contemplating an attempt to replace the exhaust manifold on my Ferguson 40. Anyone replaced a manifold on one of these Continental Z134 motors. Any advice, tips, warnings will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Massey 265 Transmission Over Heating

My transmission may not be that hot after all. The other day I used our MF 255 with the drum mower and its transmission housing felt about the same as the 265's had. I measured it with an IR Temp gun and found it to be only about 120 degrees. However, my 265's thermostat is either absent or...

    Tar River drum mower

We bought a Tar River mower to supplement/ replace an old NH 450 sickle. I love it. We mow 40 to 60 acres a year. Like other have said, typical maintenance is almost nonexistent. Blades last and are really easy to swap when the time comes. If possible, everyone ought to have a drum mower...

    Massey 265 Transmission Over Heating

What would cause a dead end? Also, it occurs me that the way we always used the front-end loader was to keep the spool lever feeding the remotes engaged all of the time. Could this cause a dead end and heat?

    Massey 265 Transmission Over Heating

We've had the 265 around for probably twenty years. I don't recall the transmission ever subjectively seeming so hot. I was using a 6' drum mower behind the 265 to cut hay. It does have auxiliary hydraulics and a frontend loader mounted which the 255 doesn't. I was pulling a New Holland 847...

    Massey 265 Transmission Over Heating

I am having a problem with my Massey Ferguson 265. The other day, while I was mowing hay, the transmission housing became extremely hot! I didn't measure the temperature, but I was using a MF 255 today baling and it didn't get anywhere near what I felt on the 265. The other thing I noticed...

Massey Ferguson 265 Steering Cylinder Problems

I wanted to give an update on my progress in case it might help anyone else. A local tractor shop solved it. The top of the pin is crudely threaded for a nut. In order to pull the pin, you thread a nut on to the pin and begin tightening it. Of course, only the top of the pin is threaded so...

Massey Ferguson 265 Steering Cylinder Problems

I am hoping maybe someone has run into this problem and might be able to help me. The power steering cylinder on my Massey Ferguson 265 needs to be resealed. However, I can't pull the pin holding the end of the hydraulic shaft. Does anyone know a trick to remove a really stuck pivot pin...
