    ? On running gear

I have rebuilt many running gears in my parade wagon hobby including John Deere and yours isn't a John Deere as others have agreed. Also, the bolt/washer/lockwasher/nut assembly attaching the tie rod to the spindle appears to be a repair solution. Normally this connection is a clevis pin...

    John Deere 952 wagon

I think it may be unique to your running gear. Here's a photo of a JD 952 gear that I rebuilt into a parade wagon. The bed is level on mine. Does your gear have bolsters on both axles? It sounds like maybe you have the front bolster but not the rear bolster. That would make the rear of the...

    Sears and roebuck running gear

Make your own as I have for a John Deere 963. Start with a 9" square piece of 1/8" flat steel. If the width of your axle is 3", mark off 3 3"x9" segments and bend the outer sections toward each other into a "U". Take your angle grinder and remove the bottom 1-1/2" x 3" of the middle section...

    John Deere Hay Wagon

Having rebuilt several JD 952, 953, and 963 running gears in my parade wagon building hobby, I have been in your situation. Here's how I answered that same question on this forum about 3 years ago from someone needing bolster stakes. I believe it will work for you. -- I had bolster stakes...

    HELP John Deere wagon

I've rebuilt several different running gears in my parade wagon hobby and about 3 of those gears were JD 953. The 953 parts catalog is attached. The 953 hub is unique and the hub on the right in this photo is a 953. The other hub is a JD 952. For my most recent 953 - about 3 years ago - I...

    JD 953 running gear

I have built 11 different parade wagons and take a year to build one. It could go much faster but then it would become a job rather than a hobby. I start with buying a running gear normally in the spring. Then, during the warm months I rebuild the gear - straighten things that are bent, weld...

    JD 953 running gear

No brakes. You only need a brake system on a wagon if it is pulled by horses. If you pull your wagon with a tractor or a vehicle, you do not need wagon brakes.

    JD 953 running gear

I have rebuilt several running gears in my parade wagon hobby. Three of those gears have been JD 953. Although the Operator's Manual I have for the JD 953 shows 2 alternative wheel sizes - 4.00x16 (4" wide) and 5.50x16 (5.5" wide) - my gears had 15" wheels that were 6" wide. With 15" wheels I...

    Oliver 5003 running gear

I have rebuilt several running gears in my parade wagon hobby and always have replaced grease seals and usually the bearings and bearing cups. Grease seals almost always are more costly than the bearings and bearing cups. I've found the best prices at NAPA and Amazon. Go to Amazon and enter...

Anyone Here Deal With Chats Classic Tractors??

Yes, I've had dealings with them. I sold one of my parade wagons to Bob Chatterton. It's listed on their web site as Wagon #2012 and it's for sale with no price listed. Call them and ask them their prices. I had asked them a few years ago via email what was the cost of their spoke wheels and...

    rusted nut / bolt removal

I have rebuilt several running gears, most were rusty. I always just cut the nut off with my angle grinder then use a bolt of the same or slightly smaller size as a punch and pound the rusted bolt out of its hole. That technique always worked for me.

    Harbor freight donates PPE

Goose - I bought their 10" sliding miter saw about 8 years ago and have been very satisfied with it. I would buy it again if I needed - maybe the 12" one although the 10" has cut everything I have put in front of it.

Have any of you ever burned out old stumps?

Yes, I've burned out a few stumps over the years but mine were not large, maybe 18" to 2' diameter. I bought a roasting kettle with handles and a lid at a garage sale for $2, cut the bottom out of it and placed it over the stump. Put a large amount of charcoal in it, douse it with a little...

    Hay wagon lights

I put antique kerosene lamps on my most recent parade wagon and only large reflectors on the back. Fun but probably not practical. You can also buy new, kerosene-looking lamps that have a headlight powered by a battery.
