Hay wagon lights

I have a hay wagon i shorten down to 12' in length. I want to install lights on it for safety. It has a metal running frame. The deck where the lights will be mounted is 2x6 boards around the sides. I can't find any good lights that i can mount into the boards and run a ground wire to the frame. Any advice?

Add a piece of sheet metal to
your 2x6 where you want the
lights and use magnetic trailer
lights. They come with a ground
wire and then you can use for
other towing too.

You don't want to try to ground through the frame. As loosehandle said, go buy a pre-made magnetic mount.

Ok thanks guys. One thing i failed to mention is that the wagon won't be used for hay hauling but for small hay rides with family and carrying things around the property.

It'd be a lot more reliable to run a ground wire right to the mounting lug on the light.

Levi, we got the idea for use from the shortening to 12' length.

Ok just making sure!!!

I used 3 wire extension cord, 7 way plug and two round amber lights.

ground / left turn / right turn for the plug

Ground and left wire for left light (ground around the mounting stud)

Ground and right wire for right light. (ground around the mounting stud)

I ran the wire to one light, connected, then ran from one light to the other.

Plug into tractor 7 way and you have flashers and turn signals.

I put antique kerosene lamps on my most recent parade wagon and only large reflectors on the back. Fun but probably not practical. You can also buy new, kerosene-looking lamps that have a headlight powered by a battery.
