59 Ford 801 diesel battery drains fast when cranking. any suggestions?
Any chance you can get some good jumper cables on it from another tractor, or maybe a car? If it starts with the battery and the jumper cables, it would lend some evidence to the battery being too small. Joe -

Exactly which battery do you have? 850CCA may not be enough if the Amp hours are low. They make 850CCA batteries for cars that would definitely struggle to get that thing rolling in the cold. (I also have an 871D by the way). Ford recommends over 135aH capacity. Think truck size... -

OBD2 Scanner for...
There's a good reason for that. I'm familiar with most scanner brands, and all of the professional level tools can do the resets needed to do this correctly. Very few folks would purchase one for this single purpose though. I can't name a single cheap scanner that I can say does it though... -
