(Non-) charging problem on a 630: Where to look?

John T, good suggestion on Brillman. I'll check with them. If this thing keeps bugging me, an alternator may be in my future! Thanks again.

(Non-) charging problem on a 630: Where to look?

John T, thanks for your comments. Should have mentioned, yes, tractor is like the original, i.e., positive ground and with a 3-wire VR. I installed a separate ground wire from the gen to the frame several years ago because I was not getting a good ground after I repainted the tractor and that...

(Non-) charging problem on a 630: Where to look?

Here's the deal as it now stands:JD 630 with new battery and new voltage regulator. Approx. 1 month ago, observed no-charge upon spring start-up. Quickly turned to John T's trouble shooting routine by first polarizing the the generator after installing the new battery, followed by grounding the...

How did check row planting work, anyway? It wasn't used in the part of the country where I was raised (west Texas).

    Faron Young

Here's a bit of Faron Young trivia I picked up in some forgotten place: Charles Schultz, the creator the classic Peanuts cartoon series had a cat named Faron. Seems he was a big Faron Young fan.

    Weed ID

I'd agree with the guys who think it is Fall Panicum (Panicum dichotomiflorum). Pretty hard to ID plants, especially grasses, from low-detail photos, though.

Mounting 4 row cultivator on JD A

My dad (and I, the flunky) ran the exact same setup (except the A had been converted to LPG) in Texas for many years. Handled it exceptionally well.

    interesting reading,,farm related

My dad did the same. Castrating a 600-lb boar was quite the process. Dad would place a 3/8 inch rope loop around the critter's top jaw, then tie it up overhead to a rafter. The hog would instinctively pull back but would stand amazingly still while the "surgery" was performed. After two months...

Corn borer control in large garden

Dust the ears with Sevin dust as soon as the silks emerge. Then again in about a week. Works for me 100%. The moths (adults) lay their eggs in the silk. Once the silks dry up, no longer a problem.

SVcummins, Give the herbicide Milestone a try on the morning glory. You will be impressed with the results! Fall application is best.

    Garage Floor Cleaning

Try Costco's Oil Eater. In the past, they stocked it in 1 gallon containers, but the last time I bought some, they only had it in 5 gallon buckets. I bought one, only $21 and cents. Gave some to our adult kids, other relatives and some friends, and still have enough for the rest of my life! It...

    Painting a John Deere Unstyled

Unstyled G Guy, The above G was painted with PPG Omni MTK.GL, color code #46180 and MP170 GL EP primer. However, keep in mind that there are at least 3 other "John Deere green" paint codes. This one seems to be a darker green than what I see on modern JD tractors. I got this code from the...
