Garage Floor Cleaning

(quoted from post at 15:34:03 08/06/18) Looking for suggestions to clean oil stains, etc. from my concrete garage floor.

You will get a lot of recommendations for products with jazzy names and colors. I have been in the cleaning chemical business for over forty years. Don't worry about the color or fancy name. For my money I would get a product with Dlimonene. That is an extract of orange peels. It is expensive but it is a great grease cutter. Allow plenty of time for it to work and use a stiff bristle brush on the oil stained areas.

Gas with a broom here,,then sprinkle floor dry on it...First thing you notice when you walk in here..the floor is clean.

Be careful using flammable liquids like gas. Cousin was cleaning the floor of his collision shop and ended up burning it to the ground ! I have used commercial degreasers with a pressure washer and had good results. Must of the time it's just floor dry and a broom.

You guys have floors? Thought those were for houses. Use a product called purple power and some stuff called Stall dri. Works great. Pour it on and use a broom and then sprinkle the Stall Dri on to absorb the liquid. Put the powder in a bucket after it dries and then reuse it over and over.

I used starting fluid or brake cleaner but try to clean up immediately or at least as soon as I get done changing oil or whatever I might be doing

try a little varsol rub it in with a broom rinse with a water hose, don't start fussing until it dries it don't look good while its wet but it cleans up oil stains pretty good

I've had good luck covering oil spills with Dawn liquid soap. Let soak 24hrs and pressure wash. Has always come clean for me.

Try Costco's Oil Eater. In the past, they stocked it in 1 gallon containers, but the last time I bought some, they only had it in 5 gallon buckets. I bought one, only $21 and cents. Gave some to our adult kids, other relatives and some friends, and still have enough for the rest of my life! It really works on concrete floors, greasy engines, and it is a great pre-wash treatment for greasy clothes. No risk of burning your shop down, either.

If you really want to do it right, you need to use a 4000 PSI, 4 GPM power washer with hot water. Soak the floor with a good detergent made for garage floors first. Use a nozzle with a narrow angle and hold it 4 inches from the floor. Plan on spending a couple hours. The floor will be spotless. I did this before I applied epoxy to a 45 year old garage floor. Epoxy is very fussy about surface cleanliness and the epoxy stuck just fine after this cleaning. This only works on good solid concrete. You need to check out the durability of the concrete first. The pressure washer will chew up a soft floor.

Beware that some of the concrete cleaning products sold in Lowes will bleach you pants and ruin your sneakers with stains.
