    OH OK I forgot about th3 brushes and didn't realize that would make a difference... maybe best if I leave well enough alone. If I take a brush out then I'd have some loose wires.

    Mike I have a generator that came off a Minneapolis Moline M5.. It has a regulator mounted on top of the generator.. my generator on the Cockshutt has a cutout mounted on top.. Do you think I could take that regulator off the Minnie generator and replace the cut out on the Cockshutt with that...

    thanks a heap mike. I had a Cockshutt 40 about 35 years ago and I never knew that.. does that apply to ones with a regulator too?? I guess a Operators manual will be ordered..

    once more I screwed up.. I pulled the cable off the Negative post.. and the tractor quit running.. I forgot it is Positive ground maybe being 86 I should quit playing with tractors....lol

    Mike that I don't know... when you say high or low charge position..? A friend who is a mechanic put a meter on it and says he's getting 1 1/2 volts showing on the meter... how do I tell if it's on high or low charge? Traditional Farmer posted that I should put a one wire alternator on it...

    Mike sorry for the confusion.. the 2 wires going to the generator were off hanging loose so I hooked them up and it shows 10 on the amp meter. so I unhooked the ground cable off the battery to see if the tractor would keep running with the battery cable off. that would indicate the generator is...

    Hi, I didn't unhook it.. I bought the tractor recently and the wires to the generator were unhooked and just hanging there and I don't know how long they were off.. It shows 10 all the time... No I don't know how to adjust the third brush...

    Mike the reason I asked it shows 10 on the amp meter so I unhooked the ground cable and the tractor quit.. So I'm thinking it's not charging.

    actually 2 questions... Will the Cocksutt 40 keep running if the battery cable is unhooked? if the Generator has been unhooked for quite awhile, does it have to be excited? and if it does what is the proper procedure, Thanks
