    the sleeve still has splines and the pump turns free, which puzzles me as to why the shaft splines stripped? one would think the shaft would be harder that the coupler sleeve? But the set screw is a good idea!

    Have a Series II 1960 D17 diesel, the power steering pump is driven off the back of the 12V generator. The end of the generator shaft is stripped and I can't find any information on these?

    Thanks guys, and my apoloigies TX Jim didn't mean to sound cross with my comment. I had read before it was stamped on one of the axle or trans housing, but I never found it. I know John Deere Mannheim Werks stamps the serial on the front bolster along with the serial plate.

    I have a 1520 John Deere 3 cyl diesel, Dubuque model, as the missing serial plate rivets are on the side of the transmission. Did Deere stamp the serial anywhere else on these? It does have the USA Made serial plate on the engine block. Is there anyway to ID the tractor year by the engine serial?

    UPDATE: After having the injection shop re-check the timing on the pump, which was correct, went back to the motor timing. Long story short, the previous owner had tried to rebuild the injection pump himself, not only did he crack the top cover of the pump, he also re-installed it out of time...

    I'll have to check with the pump shop Monday. Posting on here to see maybe I missed something? Pretty simple on JD's pin the flyweel make sure the pump is in time. Should go right back on the same.
