    I have seen brands other than Rug Doctor in surplus stores before. Like the ones a hotel or building manager might own. With the cost of a junky retail level machine around 300 bucks, $750 for a Rug Doctor that would last for a lifetime probably is not a bad deal. Josh

    There are these little round Scotch-Brite pads that fit a die grinder. Works really well to remove gasket material and RTV. Need air or electricity for the tool, so it might have not helped on this one. Doesn"t seem to gouge into aluminum either. I usually use contact cement on the part side...

    Motor brushes

    Maybe you could adapt a brush from some other motor? Our local ACE Hardware has a pretty good selection of brushes for appliances and power tools. I have gad good luck in the past adapting them to fit other things. If it is a large brush, maybe an auto electric shop that has been around a while...

    Anybody have this problem?

    I have heard that the spring type, either the wire or band, are supposed to hold constant tension and not loosen up and leak as bad. It is important to have the right tool to install and remove them so they don"t get sprung. Maybe they are worth a try? Josh
