    OT propane backup generator

Call me crazy if you want, but look for an old Kohler with the flathead 4 cylinder. We had these at our radio sites, and boy were they reliable, tough, and easy to work on. The one ran for about 3 weeks straight at near full load without a lick of trouble. We ran them with synthetic motor oil...

    6 versus 8 volt batterry

As other said, 8 volt is a band aid. Unless the regulator is adjusted, it will not charge properly. Try and fix whatever is wrong so it starts and charges properly on 6 volts. Make sure all the high current cables are proper and have not been changed out for smaller gauge 12 volt cables. The...

    MH44 EFI update

David, I would make note of the smoke and revisit it later as you get more things worked out with the program. Your tractor has more in common with a modern automobile than what it started out life as. Should be able to program it out rather easily. Too much fuel injected when going into...

    Digital multimeter diode check

Keep in mind that the forward voltage drop increases with current due to the resistive nature of the PN junction. The meter is very low current when it gives the .7 volts or so for a silicon diode. A diode with a larger amount of current will have a forward drop that is higher and in proportion...

    Detroit Diesel In A Pickup?

A good friend of mine put a Detroit with an Allison automatic in an early 70"s Ford Camper Special. It was a beast of a truck! Wurb sold the truck in "94 when he bought one of the new dodge trucks. I don"t remember any of the details except for it was a tight fit and he could be heard coming...

    Rug shampooer

I have seen brands other than Rug Doctor in surplus stores before. Like the ones a hotel or building manager might own. With the cost of a junky retail level machine around 300 bucks, $750 for a Rug Doctor that would last for a lifetime probably is not a bad deal. Josh

    Rug shampooer

Well, I can tell you what to stay away from. Don"t fool around with some unit designed for home use. Find a used commercial unit in good shape. I will never again buy a rug machine meant for the retail market. They just don"t hold up well. When this retail unit I have finally gives up totally, I...

    Rant!!

There are these little round Scotch-Brite pads that fit a die grinder. Works really well to remove gasket material and RTV. Need air or electricity for the tool, so it might have not helped on this one. Doesn"t seem to gouge into aluminum either. I usually use contact cement on the part side...

    An electrical question

There has been much discussion of properly making connections to electric sub panels in places like barns and workshops. I have two very similar electrical situations, one in my workshop and one at our two way radio site. Both installations are from the 1950"s and feature no grounding conductor...

    Motor brushes

Maybe you could adapt a brush from some other motor? Our local ACE Hardware has a pretty good selection of brushes for appliances and power tools. I have gad good luck in the past adapting them to fit other things. If it is a large brush, maybe an auto electric shop that has been around a while...

    Anybody have this problem?

I have heard that the spring type, either the wire or band, are supposed to hold constant tension and not loosen up and leak as bad. It is important to have the right tool to install and remove them so they don"t get sprung. Maybe they are worth a try? Josh

    MH44 Progress PS working

David, I have been enjoying watching the progress on this project. I don"t post a reply too often, but wanted you to know I am following your project. Very nice work you are doing! Josh

    Back on the road again

In California it is not unusual to spend this kind of money to get a 8 to 12 years old vehicle to pass smog check. Josh
