    Help identifying Gearbox?

Update: I got some cornhead grease and sourced the two seals and key locally, but I found a bigger issue when I disassembled the gearbox. The lower shaft and retaining nut threads are boogered. Looks like it came loose while in use. I don't have a tap and die set that big. I found the retaining...

    Help identifying Gearbox?

I am looking for some help identifying a gear box that came off an old brush cutter (see pics). I am needing to replace the seals and get a new key stock for the shaft. The numbers 1500092 are on the case but not finding anything from an internet search. I was told that the cutter came to the...

    1952 8N Head Gasket Blown

I got the 8N home yesterday and removed the head. Below is a list of discrepancies I found: 1. All of the head bolts were very loose. I suspect they were not torqued properly when the engine was "rebuilt" approximately 100 hours ago. 2. 17 of the 18 head bolts were grade 5 and had a grip length...

    1952 8N Head Gasket Blown

Hello All, My 52 8N blew a head gasket yesterday while mowing. Unfortunately, I did not realize it overheated for quite sometime. Now I have a lot of water coming out of the exhaust and an oil pan full of contaminated oil. The engine still runs with good oil pressure and was supposedly...

    1952 8N Front Tires Rubbing 6.00 x 16

Update: Repacked front wheel bearings, replaced upper and lower spindle bushings, and spindle trust bearing. I now have about 1/4 inch clearance on both front wheels. I will see how it does when I bush hog the fields next month. At the end of the day, the correct wheels will fix this problem...

    1952 8N Front Tires Rubbing 6.00 x 16

I believe I am on the right track now based on all the post. 1. The Front Rims installed are the wrong size for 6.00 x16. 2. Repacked Wheel Bearings, no play noted. 2. Checked the Spindle bushings and they are slap worn out! 3. Ordered Spindle bushings and 2 inch wheel studs (PN C5NN1107F...

    1952 8N Front Tires Rubbing 6.00 x 16

Ok, I bet quite a few of you have ran into this and can share some knowledge. I bought a 1952 8N that has larger front tires (6.00 x 16). I like the ride but the tires are rubbing on the top spindle nut. I really do not want to spend $160 on different size wheels. Does anyone know of a PN...

Ford 8N 12 Volt Conversion Electrical Help

Thanks! Looking at the Radio Shack site the diode (276-1661)shows rated at 50 volt / 6 Amps. Another tread mentioned a 3 Amp diode in series. Would there be a benefit or potential problem with choosing one of these diodes over the other?

Ford 8N 12 Volt Conversion Electrical Help

I decided to convert my 1952 Ford 8N to a 12 volt electrical system with electronic ignition. Does anyone know what size / rated diode I should use in the harness?
