    Wore out, it is odd that it would start when pulled. I agree with you that it must have had some contact but not all the time. So, if what I got is fine, I wonder what caused the resistor to burn out?

    1937 John Deere A purchased new by my great grandfather, seated. My mom sitting on his knee and her brother standing. My cousin Terry had the A restored. The 1948 WD that my paternal grandfather bought new. This is a pic of it with my dad after I had it restored.
