John Deere 2040 No Hydraulic Oil Getting to Filter

Trackrat, you hit the nail on the head. Update on the "no hydraulics" issue with this JD 2040. I finally split the tractor into 3 separate pieces and pulled the rear hydraulic pump. From initial inspection, it "appeared" to be in good condition. I could spin it by hand with no problem...

John Deere 2040 No Hydraulic Oil Getting to Filter

You are correct TX Jim. There is a quad ring but it is not located at the correct location in the first picture you sent, however, the in the last (combined) pictures, it is correctly located in the middle and lower picture. The upper picture apparently shows it in the wrong location. Thanks...

John Deere 2040 No Hydraulic Oil Getting to Filter

You are correct Jim.ME. There are two hydraulic drain plugs. I just picked up the transmission case to clutch housing gasket. I am splitting the tractor tomorrow to see what is happening with the suction from the rear pump.

John Deere 2040 No Hydraulic Oil Getting to Filter

No, I did not order that quad ring since it does not appear to be used on this particular 2040 at the point show. There is no place for it. I only found 1 (pressurized?) oil connection from transmission case to rockshaft housing (see picture) and it does not show any o-ring. All other holes...

John Deere 2040 No Hydraulic Oil Getting to Filter

Once the furnace warms up the 2400sq ft garage to a nice balmy 70°, I will check to see if there are 2 drain plugs. I still have the rockshaft cover off (awaiting RS gasket), so I might drain oil again to see if both sections of the transmission case drain. This 2040 was definitely made in...

John Deere 2040 No Hydraulic Oil Getting to Filter

Yes, I have operators manual (116 pages), parts manual (581 pages) and JD service (technical) manuals (586 pages)`. I even have the service manual in French! And.... I don't even speak French.

John Deere 2040 No Hydraulic Oil Getting to Filter

You are probably correct that there are 2 drain plugs. I will confirm later today. While I have the rockshaft cover removed (waiting on a RS gasket), I measured 5" (depth) of hydraulic oil in the rear section of the transmission case and only 2" (depth) in the front section of the...

John Deere 2040 No Hydraulic Oil Getting to Filter

The filter bypass valve and the filter relief valve are the same thing. It is definitely moving freely because I checked it 3 times. The output of the pump comes out of the sidewall of the transmission housing directly into the filter canister as shown in the first two pictures. (This is...

John Deere 2040 No Hydraulic Oil Getting to Filter

My brother asked me to look at his JD 2040 (SN 407877) (no independent hydraulics, closed center hydraulics) because it lost power steering and the lift arms will not raise. He said he pulled the hydraulic oil filter and it was collapsed, so he replaced the hydraulic filter, then replaced all...

    Case 990 hydraulic system malfunction

Hopefully, the 990's Selectomatic Control [u:023f25acbf]Valve[/u:023f25acbf] is external on yours. It is [u:023f25acbf]inside[/u:023f25acbf] the rear right axle on the Case 380CK. See attached 1st and 2nd pictures. The Selectormatic Control [u:023f25acbf]Mechanism[/u:023f25acbf] is...

    Case 990 hydraulic system malfunction

Diesel fuel is probably a much safer product to use than gasoline to clean out everything. Gasoline is far more dangerous due to explosive fumes. The hydraulics can handle very small amounts of diesel mixed with the fluid. Be sure to precisely count the number of turns for the...

Case 380 PTO clutch won''t disengage

My 380CK has the same problem. I have not had the time to split the tractor to determine the problem. I get around this issue with my bush hog by raising it, then turning off the tractor. Engage the PTO, then crank the engine. I have been using this workaround for several years...

    885 battery discharges

I have a Case 380CK, which is very similar to the 885. I have the complete wiring diagrams for the Case if you need them. If the instrument cluster was removed, there is good chance that a wire might have been accidentally relocated to a wrong terminal. Also, the original ignition...

    Case 990 hydraulic system malfunction

The Selectormatic Control Valve (on the right side, inside the rear axle) is known for getting trash inside, which causes all kinds of hydraulic problems. While you have the rear case off, I would probably suggest that you pull that valve and clean out the trash from that valve. Be careful...

    2240 Electrical Question

Thanks Jim, I think the cable is probably broken off and frozen in the "fuel on" position, because it was not anywhere to be found. There was nothing to release or push in to kill the fuel. I just turned the key and it started once I put a battery into it. I looked around the fuel injection...
