    Spark plug

I had a 400 for 20 years or more. Down pressure on the Eagle Hitch, live PTO and live hydraulics. I added an aftermarket power steering unit. Toughest tractor out there, bar none!

544 will not start without a shot

Has it had any work done to the cylinder head? If the valves and seats were ground, that is enough to cause sub-optimum compression, which results in hard starting. There are strict specs concerning valve and seat dimensions on many diesel engines.

    800 case tractor Hydraulic question

I used a 6-port selector valve, mounted under the seat. ( https://surpluscenter.com/1-2-npt-20-gpm-double-selector-valve/) Pull up to run the 3-point, which locks the loader lift arms where ever they happen to be. Push it down and it locks the 3-point where it is and the loader lift arms worked...

    Case dc

Neutral goes front to back, as you describe but I think it as "up and down", not sideways, like normal. For sure, frozen water can cause exactly that. If you get temps above freezing or get it thawed somehow, crack the transmission drain plug, place a sheet of clean cardboard under it and...

Case 1290 Hydraulic Test Port Location?

In other words, you will get no pressure reading until you introduce a restriction, like dead-heading into your gauge. You could hook directly into the pressure outlet of the pump but it will be hard to start the engine with all that load on the pump, plus the only way to stop the pressure...

You're probably alright then. What you might look for is a DIFFERENCE in temperature between one cross and another, rather than average temp.

    You are the best

It would be easy enough to jump that resister. You could get fancy and include a toggle switch so you could invoke the jumper when it's running poorly and look for an improvement.

After you run it for 1/2 hour or so, stop and feel each cross. If one is going bad, it will be hot.

Drill Bits - Not a Case tractor question but hoping for help

As a guide, I use a pilot drill about the same diameter as the web of the final size. Just look at the final bit head-on and notice the center part, not counting the actual cutting flutes. Also, when approaching a pilot hole that may be bigger than I described above, enter cautiously, as the...

Drill Bits - Not a Case tractor question but hoping for help

I feel that cutting oil also helps "conduct" heat away from the immediate cutting edge, (into the chip or into the stock) thus preserving the cutting edge

    Underrated Case Tractors

I had a "big" 400 Case. I slipped that clutch so much using a big 9' wide homemade back blade to remove snow, I don't know how it ever stood it, but it did. Absolutely had to be the toughest tractor ever built.

Drill Bits - Not a Case tractor question but hoping for help

I learned to use low RPM and enough pressure to keep solid coils of shaving coming off the bit. Don't let it just rub. The chip carrys heat away from the cutting edge. Rubbing creates heat and without a chip carrying heat away, the cutting edge overheats and goes dull.

    Kevin's '57 Case 400 issues

Is there a possibility to replace the cap screws with studs? With a stud, you can use EVERY thread, right to the bottom of the hole. The studs become a static anchor. In addition, when torquing down, the twisting and pulling pressure is on the stud, not on the weakened threads in the cast iron.

Unhook the small activator wire from your solenoid. Test that wire for the presence of voltage. Should be none unless you are attempting to activate that solenoid.

    1070

Yeah, there should not be a draw thru the big terminals. But the "activator" terminal (s) SHOULD show a draw equivalent to whatever the activator coil wants to draw.
