sealed ujoints

I value the opinions stated here because everybody seems willing to help. I am thinking about replacing the u joints on my Case 602 cutter this winter. They probably have never been changed. I know a lot of folks like to be able to grease ujoints, but where these are positioned they are loaded with dirt all the time. It seems maybe sealed would be better. What do you think?

Makes no difference , greasable or non greasable they are made the same. I always like greasable unjoints. I have even taken non greasable dry ones apart and replaced them.

Greaseable or not they are sealed on the ends of the cups. I have seen some greaseable ones come with a plug as well as a grease fitting. One can grease it after installation and install the plug. The difference in dirt build up is more often from over greasing and blowing the cup seals out. JMHO

Are the u joints bad or sloppy? I wouldn't change them unless they are.

That thing ran super quiet but it has been getting alot of use lately, 60-100 acres a year. I notice it is noiser, sort of rattly sounding. There seems to be some play in 1 of the u-joints.

On our big winch truck the pump was driven off the front of the engine. There was a short drive shaft in there which was next to impossible to grease the small joints which were about the size of a small truck so they would put non greasable ones in.When the mechanics would change the joint they would take the cups off and drill and tap a zerk in two of the bearing cups. Made them much easier to grease. We got a lot less problems with them after that. They would last a couple years .

You're probably alright then. What you might look for is a DIFFERENCE in temperature between one cross and another, rather than average temp.

I did. They are all about the same. Curious as to why folks resist changing them. Are all the replacements chinese junk?
