    Spring Plowing

I have seen my grandfather turn under 8' Dog Fennels with that trick. Only he used a piece of chain with a weight on the end. It was about the size and shape of an eggplant and weighed a good 10 pounds or so.

Which Cultivision Models Best for Tilling

Kermit, I think if your sold on the idea that you have to till the "140" is probably not for you. With that being said, I think the 140 is the ultimate tractor for a small vegetable operation. Just be prepared to spend some coin on all the goodies that you would need to go with it, i.e...

In your opinion, what is the GREATEST tractor EVER,under 50hp

That really is a loaded question with too many variables. But, i'll give it a whirl anyway. For me, small time pea farmer 30 acres +/-, the Farmall 140 is the best thing I have come across. It's paid for and have all the goodies to go with it. Layne

    Planting with a 140

Well I guess only time will tell for sure. I'm not out much if it doesn't work. Even a 10% increase in yield will pay for the extra seed and fertilizer. I'll let you know what happens in 2 months or so. Thanks, Layne

    Planting with a 140

I know the yield isn't ging to be twice as much. I am hoping for a little better than 15 to 25%. Maybe the fertilizer will make up for a little and we get a little more rain than normal this year. The 44" row is due to the size of the tractor. It is a one row tractor. Layne

    Planting with a 140

Was just wondering if anyone has tried this. Yesterday I planted about an acre of zippercream and cream 40 peas on top of 4 hundred pounds of 10-10-10 that was put out a week ago. I very seldom fertilize peas, but this year I am trying something a little different. We farm with a 140, set...

    Fert. cans

What we do is side dress fertilizer, with a distributer, about a week before planting. A little deeper and off to the side of the row. Again at about a 1 to 1 1/2 months after the crop comes out. Like said the theory is the fertilizer will break down before the plants roots get to it. Layne

    Farmers Almanac

My grandfather lived by it. All I can remember is he planted peas, I think the sign was reigns, in the middle of August, he never sprayed or had bugie peas. You cant make a living planting by the signs anymore, for a garden it would be neat to play around with. Layne

    Garden Time

I planted the 20th of March at the house garden. 3 rows of okra, 1 row crookneck squash, 1 row bell peppers, a few Ichiban eggplants, and some straight 8 cukes. At Dad's place I am planting Zippercream and Cream 40 Peas on Friday. The first planting will be about 2/3 acre. Then every three...

    #9ba disk harrow

Not sure of your disc. My father, who seen my IH disc new in 1964 said it came with NO blue paint. Frame was red and the axles were black. I don't know the #'s on the disc's. I would only assume most IH disc's had the same color scheme. Sorry if thats not any help. Layne

    IH 18" Plow Chief

Thank You! That is further than I have gotten in 2 weeks. I will check Parts Depot out and see what I can find. This was my Grandfathers plow and I want to get it back in useable condition. I have a few other Plow Chief's a 16" and (2) 2-14's. One of the 2-14 is basically brand new. I...
