    An Unwanted Hole

Thanks everyone. I would have never (well maybe) that someone didn't like the size of the current hole for oil flow and just "opened it up" a little. LOL. I have to keep reminding myself of how old this thing is - and I really don't even know that. Thanks again.

    An Unwanted Hole

Anyone want to take a guess at how this quarter size hole wound up in this strange place on this 172 block? You're looking at the front just below the camshaft and the engine is upside down on a stand. Also, how about the screw? All the bearings are still in the governor, nothing broke inside...

    Differences in each 800 model

It is isn't it. But I think I'm going to take the crank to a machine shop and have it turned to make all the journals the same. The engine blew a head gasket between #2 & 4 but it's not those journals that are worn. It's the outer ones that are 0.008 worn more than the inner two.

    Differences in each 800 model

Uh oh. What if I only have brake pedals on the right side? And I'm new at submitting photos. I hope after I push select it works right. LOL. [img:8559820970][/img:8559820970]

    Differences in each 800 model

I appreciate the info. So far I know that the difference between an 800 and 801 are the paint and year. How about the other 800 series models? From the chart posted above, I am guessing I have an 840 or 841 but all of the identifying marks, such as the area you pointed out are no longer present...

    Differences in each 800 model

From the chart maybe an 840 or 841. Still don't know the year though. I've started to get measurements on most of the parts needed so I can order them that way. I do know I have a 3.90 bore and rod bearings have 0.40 stamped on them. But I have to know what the original journal measurement is in...

What does "IT FO-20" stand for? And is that a manual available on this website or do I find it elsewhere? Thanks.

Replacing the rear freeze or welsh plug

Thanks for the info. I finally removed the flywheel - extremely heavy but lowered it down mechanically, replaced the freeze plug and will be replacing the throwout bearing as well. The clutch plate will also get replaced. Ring gear looked ok. Question though. The fingers in the pressure...

    Becoming a Man

I know how you feel. I'm 65 so I'm at the other end of the age spectrum but I did it by myself as well. The only part I may have done different is the lowering of the million pound flywheel to the ground.

    Becoming a Man

I think that's important - the right tools. I started out with a jack stand and floor jack. Ended up with an engine lift, floor jack and four jack stands but I did it safely. I quickly found out about the front end being able to turn every direction you don't want it to and the engine easily...

    Differences in each 800 model

Can someone please point me to a manual, scroll, leaflet, magazine, pamphlet, book, library full of books, anything that can tell me the differences in the 800 models. Google Images are getting tired of me asking them to keep pulling up photos for comparisons. Also, are there manuals...
