    John Deere B throttle response

Sounds like I have a carburetor issue from all the posts. The carb that is on it was a remanufactured purchased from ebay. I'm guessing it must have been shotty work done by an amateur. I really appreciate everyone's advice. Thank you!!!

    John Deere B throttle response

I'm new to running these old John Deeres, so I'm hoping someone can give me guidance on the the throttle. I rebuilt a 48 B, it starts and runs smoothly. But needs the choke to be on about half way. If I open the choke, even after being warmed up, it cuts off. Is this normal? Also, should...

    1948 JD B throttle linkage

I got a 48 John deere B that seems to be having some sort of fuel issue. When I first put the tractor together, I did not have the throttle linkage, so I made my own piece to go from the governor to the carb. The tractor would run good, but the throttle would surge with the governor. So I...

48 John Deere B starting issue

Well, after trying everything with no luck, I circled back to the magneto. I noticed the points gap was quite large. When I set it to 0.015, I lost all spark. This was supposed to be a rebuilt one I got off eBay a while back. Guess you get what you pay for. I purchased a mag from an actual...

48 John Deere B starting issue

Thanks for the advice. I may try to pull it tonight. I think that is the only thing that I haven't tried. Do you think priming the cylinders with gas would help? Seems like I'm already getting enough fuel though, always a puddle on the floor below the petcocks after cranking a while.

48 John Deere B starting issue

I just got done completely restoring a 48 B, and can't get it to start. I'm completely baffled. The entire engine has been rebuilt, rebuilt mag, and a new carb. I'm getting gas to the motor, have a nice blue spark at TDC on 3116 plugs, and 110 psi compression. It doesn't even attempt to...

1948 John Deere B starting issue after rebuild

I just finished restoring a 1948 B. Tractor came out beautiful, only problem is it won't start to leave the garage! I think I've taken it about about 3 - 4 times now and can't figure it out. I'm getting a nice blue spark at the plugs and fuel coming out of the exhaust pipe after some...

    Clutch adjustment on D6 9U

Thanks for the advice. I did some wrenching on it this morning and opened it up. There is still some threads showing, so I assume there is a good bit of adjustment left, but that ring doesn't seem to be as easy to move as I expected. Before I shove a block of wood in there and start beating on...

    Clutch adjustment on D6 9U

I have a 1956 D6 9U that has recently been having issues with the clutch disengaging and I'm not getting that snap-in feel. I have the service manual, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be adjusting. I think the manual I have is for the older dry clutch style. I was wondering if anyone...

301a rebuilt top end, won't start

Looking for some advice on a JD diesel (3-152), I just recently put new pistons and rings, as well as a rebuilt head on my JD 301a. Got it all back to together and can"t get it to start. I did not pull the engine out, so I didn"t get a chance to screw with the injection timing. I"m getting a...

Sudden knocking and white smoke in JD301a

Thanks for the quick replies. If it is the head gasket, would there be water in the oil? Right now, the oil looks clean. I read somewhere online that a bad injector could cause the knocking, smoke, and possible hydraulic lock in a cylinder. Has anyone experienced this? It would be nice to...

Sudden knocking and white smoke in JD301a

I was hoping ya"ll could help me diagnosis my 301a. I was plowing a feild with it last night when it all of the sudden started knocking really bad and white smoke started coming out of the exhaust. I shut it down, then it would not crank. I"m not real experienced with diesel motors, so I...

    Locked up H

Thanks for all the advice guys. After work yesterday, I ran home to start wrenching. Found the problem to be the starter. That was a huge relief. I was getting ready to tear down that engine, so I can't thank you guys enough for saving me the time, money and fustration that would have...

    Locked up H

I'm looking for some advise. I was doing some mowing with my 1950 H last night when the engine locked up. It was running great, then it just sputtered like it was running out of gas and stopped. I has just filled the tank with gas, so I knew that wasn't the problem. When I turned the key...
