    Frost Plug Block Heater

I need to install a block heater on my 1971 MF-175. Can you confirm that this is the frost plug where it is installed? Also, does anyone know a particular block heater that would work on this tractor? Thanks.

    Electrical info on MF175

I'm looking for a good shop manual for the electrical on a 1971 MF175 and I see two available: The I&T Shop Manual MF-29 or the MASSEY FERGUSON MF 175 OPERATIONS MANUAL for MF175 Tractor Service & Maintenance Any idea which is better with electrical? Thanks.

    Cold Weather and Diesel Engine

To my knowledge there are no glow plugs. And I think the procedure is right because it starts fine over about 55 degrees.

    Cold Weather and Diesel Engine

Thanks. Battery is brand new and I plug it into a trickle charger. Starts great when it's warm out. Do you know how I'd check the compression?

    temperature gauge

The tractor does have a thermostat on the right side. I'll take a look at the thermostat but I'm actually not sure what I'm looking for or how to tell if the thermostat is good. And yes, the gauge is the capillary type that screws into the radiator--not the thermostat, but on the other side of...

    temperature gauge

I just replaced a Temperature Gauge in my MF 175 with a new non-electrical model. And it doesn't seem to work either. It's such a simple mechanism, I can't figure out what the problem is. Has anyone else run into the same, or do you know the trouble-shooting steps on this one? Thanks.

    Cold Weather and Diesel Engine

I have an early 70s MF175 and I can't get it to start if the temp is below about 55 degrees. Is this normal? I thought a block heater was needed only when temps were a good bit colder than that . . . If this is normal, I guess that installing a block heater is the next step. If so, if anyone...

    Over Running Coupler needed

Sorry I'm being thick here, but with the ORC your blades stop spinning immediately? And when you say you're using it for safety. . . what negative scenario is it preventing? Thanks, Matthew

    Over Running Coupler needed

I keep reading conflicting terminology and info and am trying to get this straight in my head so I don't get myself in trouble. And I'm new to tractors so apologies for a basic question. I just got a 1971 Massey 175. The PTO on this one has a shifter to the left of the seat that goes from...

    Flipping a bush hog

I need to replace the blades on my bush hog. To do so I need to flip it over or on edge, but I don't have a front end loader. I do have a boom but it will only raise if a few feet high. Suggestions?

    MF 175 PTO basic question

Thanks to all of you for the help. You confirmed a few things I wasn't sure about and taught me a few I didn't know. I'm an old dog tying to learn new tricks and really appreciate it.

    MF 175 PTO basic question

Apologies in advance for a very basic question. . . I'm new to this but need to learn quickly and safely. I just bought a 1970 MF175 with what I think is the "live" PTO set up--settings on PTO are for "Ground, Neutral, or Engine." Can anyone steer me to a good explanation or demo of how to bush...
