    Genrator

I must apologize Jim, my question was poorly worded. What I was thinking of was not a momentary touch as when polarizing but actually connecting the BAT and GEN and leaving them connected when starting the tractor. The F to frame jumper would not be in place. I'm thinking that if I get charging...

    Genrator

My SA has three brush, cutout and 4 position switch. Just started to act up, no charge when starting it up, however when I dead ground the field to the frame it starts to charge normally. This would indicate a bad ground but, when I remove the jumper from the F terminal it continues to charge...

    Igniton timing.

Timed my newly rebuilt c-113, in a C, by ear as I've done in the past..Mostly out of curiosity I'd like to hook up the timing light and check it out. Does anyone know where I can find a spec in degrees BTDC at what RPM etc? None of my manuals cover the use of a light.

    Wiring quedstion

The green lines are dental floss just for illustration. What I dont understand is why the GEN to Armature wire is only 14ga. The original is 14 as is the one in the new harness set and my Super A is the same.

    Wiring quedstion

That was my thought at first but then I started thinking that it was apples and oranges, going from energizing a solenoid that closes a set of mechanical points to something completely electronic.

    Wiring quedstion

I'm replacing the cutout relay on my C with a solid state unit. To keep the original look I am hiding it inside the original enclosure with the guts removed. The original wiring had 10 gauge wire to BAT and 14 to GEN on the cutout. I am wondering what to use internally to connect the new cutout...

    Electrical Question

OK, It failed part two (speeding up) when removing jumper. I wasn't sure if the cable from the light switch to F stays connected for this test so I tried the jumper to frame with and without that wire connected. Geoff

    Electrical Question

Hey John, on a different note. You answered a post of mine from earlier in the month concerning non charging genny and linked to your troubleshooting guide. I've done every test and all things point to the generator itself. I tried a different genny with my cutout and all is perfect. The...

    Generator Help

Help John T.!!! Back to square one, got a little charge for a while but now discharges hard with points closed. I installed a generator from another tractor and all works perfectly. So, my rebuilt (by me) generator seems to be the problem. It passes the motoring test? Is there any other test...

    Electrical Question

The book says to keep a minimum of 3.2 bars between brushes on my 3 brush Delco generator. It doesnt tell you why. Anyone know?

    Generator Help

Thank you for the link John. I did all the tests and was coming up empty until I jumped the cutout with a field ground to the battery. When I did this without that ground in place the points would stay in only as long as the jumper was in place and it would show discharge. With the good ground...

    Generator Help

I have a 49 C with three brush generator/cutout relay/4 position light switch. I completely rebuilt the generator and it motors like a charm. I have checked and rechecked the wiring and it is correct. I polarized before starting by jumping BAT to GEN on the cutout (the points in the cutout...
