    I have another question for you. Is it a good idea to run the Brush hog behind the 48 B? the reason I ask is in conversation I was told that if I hit something solid using that implement it will break my transmission/PTO gears. Is there any truth to that?

    Help me to understand. Because fuel is so thin, thinner than oil and a poor needle valve seat the fuel flows past the rings into the crankcase, correct? Makes sense. I suppose ill need to change the oil filter as well, its probably saturated with gas too. Im glad to hear it a simple solution...

    Just picked up a 48 JD-BW, its in very good shape, sheet metal is good, new tires and runs good. Came with a 4' brush hog for 2500 bucks. Supposedly only 50 hours on the motor.     Just got back from sears, Bought an infrared thermometer, I can point that directly at the coolant and check it against the gauge.

    Running with the shutter closed is the only way I can get the temp. to 150*, I guess it just efficient in the cooling department. Maybe this summer in warmer temperatures ill have better luck. Thanks...

    oil pressure

    I have adjusted the pressure to medium at an idle, you were correct it raises to high at wide open, no smoke. I inspected the oil lines and they are all good. Thanks for the good advice!

    I had replaced the oil line supplying oil to the top end when it was torn down.and spun the crank by hand to be sure the lines didn't conflict with anything, all was well then, but I can double check it.
