Pertronix Ignitor II bench test fail

I ended up building my own hybrid ignition. Kept the points but they now just do the switching of an IGBT designed for ignition coils , but no need for the capacitor in the distributor or the ballast resistors. Add to this if you turn on the ignition with the points closed, and if the points...

    8N starter bendix

Problem solved. A neighbor had a spare one with an original Bendix.

    8N starter bendix

New ring gear, new battery, new battery cables, still stuck.

    8N starter bendix

Thank you, but unfortunately out of stock https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/R2325_Starter-Drive_7701.htm

    8N starter bendix

Does anyone know where I can get a Bendix for my 8N starter, and I mean a proper Bendix not the piece of c**p ratcheting one I was sold, but one that you don't have to fight to get to retract? Went to start my 8N and the battery was low, so the Bendix stuck. Put on a brand new battery, but the...

    Spark plug wire tube

My DIY electronic ignition still uses the points, so no problems with EMI affecting the hall sensor that Pentronix uses. My plug wires are just the cheapest ones I could get from the parts store and so far so good 🤞. But thanks for the input regarding the tube.

    Spark plug wire tube

Is the tube necessary? I've just finished my DIY electronic ignition for my 8N front mount distributor but the tabs on the tube for the plug wires are broken. I can fix it but this is not an absolute restoration, but just enough restoration to get a working tractor. With modern silicone plug...

Is my 8N a good candidate for electronic ignition?

Not having the money to buy an EI, I built my own hybrid. Still uses the points but if the points stay closed for too long the ignition shuts down.

    Pinion bearing moving

Thanks. It was just that what looked like a gouge in the casting and the lack of paint on the gouge had me concerned. I decided to remove the bearing carrier, which came out without any problems. The lock washer didn't have either tab bent over and both the preload and lock nuts were just...

    Pinion bearing moving

Bit of a puzzle. I finished pressure washing the rear section and was checking the main differential pinion bearings, the ones in the carrier, when I noticed that the pilot bearing BB4625-B, or BB4626-D (The parts book shows both numbers for the same bearing) moves laterally inside the housing...

    Rocker sleeve

I've started on stripping the rear section of my 8N and on watching a youtube video it shows a sleeve inside the hydraulic lift rocker. I hope admin doesn't mind but the easiest way to explain my question is to refer to the video at minute 17:10...

    Flywheel bolts

Thanks everyone. I decided not to overtax my brain any more than necessary and simply ordered the correct bolts that use safety wire. After all, I've spent too much time and money to have the rebuilt engine wrecked for the sake of less that $20. Now to track down the missing flywheel to...

    Flywheel bolts

Do all 8N's have the flywheel bolts wired? The reason I ask is that on removing the flywheel on my early 8N the bolts are shouldered with a distinct concave head to the bolt. No locking wire or tab washers and no sign of Loctite. :?:

    Flywheel bolts

I was wondering if some bolts weren't drilled for wires, but like the cam gear used a lock tab instead. Had I taken more time searching I would have found that another member had the same issue. But I have the retaining ring 7RA7609...

    Radius arm pins

I tried drilling a 5mm deep hole with a 5mm diameter drill so that the air hammer wouldn't drift off center, but either my drill bits aren't up to the job (Harbor Freight) or it's a really tough steel. Maybe try again after I get the pin toasty
