    TO-30 Oil Change

I distinctly remember over hearing a person explaining it was far more important to always check and top off the oil over changing it. Something like ‘Dad always said making sure it was full was more important than clean’. Penny wise and pound foolish if you ask me. I also looked over a tractor...

    NH 258 rake

I bought a used NH rake and converted to spring coil times. Many of the rubber types were missing or getting there. I have found the best way to prevent broken metal tines is to have good bar bearings. The bars wobbling causes undue fatigue apparently.

    TO-35 stuck in reverse

So, I managed to get my Ferguson TO-35 stuck in reverse. Best I can tell I was pulling up on the gear shift lever while trying to shift into high range 1 and it jumped the rail down in the transmission case. I knew exactly what happened because my TO-20 has a sloppy lever pin that slides out of...

    Kuhn Tedder question

I agree that slowing down ground speed and increasing PTO speed spreads farther. I am guessing the previous owner either never broke a tine or cut them to equal the shortest worn ones. They are all the same length. But a shorter tine tips the tedder angle steeper and the tip speed would be...

    Kuhn Tedder question

I recently bought a used Kuhn GF5202 four star Tedder and sold my much older GF5001 four star Tedder. The newer tedder has noticeable shorter tines but all the same length. However, it does NOT spread the hay out as well as the older tedder, which had many more newer tines, hence full length...

John deere model 30 bale ejector issues

I would check the fluid level and micro screen filter first. I’ve never been able to spin my filter out and I know it needs to be cleaned. After that, make sure the distance valve is actually turning and not just the handle.

How far would you drive a tractor home vs a trailer?

I’ve driven a tractor up to 25 miles a number of times. I towed a NH Haybine about 25 miles and one axle broke about 1 mile from home. These days I make the deal including delivery, up front, if available. 10 miles is easy but have a friend follow with some tools. 2 weeks ago I towed a Tedder 20...

    Seed Potatoes Needed

I buy certified seed potatoes for the garden every year but I almost always put a row of last year’s in too, to round out the space. We get better results with the certified. Less bugs, more yield and generally the last year plants are always smaller. Maybe it’s our soil, who knows. But it’s a...

Are there such places as implement junkyards??

Try Fry’s Machinery in PA. From pictures they haven’t scrapped anything since they started.

    How does the HP change?

I picked up a JD utility tractor brochure. It lists 4 different HP for the exact same size engine. 2 questions: I assume the fuel is turned up to increase HP, yes? And, why bother buying the lower HP machine when cost is based on the engine size?

    Eagle Nest

On several occasions, when one of our ewes has a new born lamb there will be an eagle perched nearby. I don’t know if the eagles smell them, hear them or see them. Normally the lambs are born in the barn so that rules out seeing them. We haven’t lost any yet, likely due to our dogs being around.

    Question to NY 986

Thanks for all the replies. There is a bunch of experience on this website and it’s invaluable. The individual stories often piece together into a much bigger story to pay close attention to. Thanks again.

    Question to NY 986

I was reading your post from July where you explained a filter number mixup to you, years ago. And you replied to my post about something similar I just went thru. You explained your 2 different filters had 2 different thread sizes and since I had a similar problem, was that a JD tractor? I am...

    Literature---1962 John Deere 3010 / 4010 Tractor Brochure

4010 was my 1st big tractor. I converted it to 12v couple years ago, it starts so much better I use it more than the 4020, which always started easy.

    What happened to spring?

The weather here in SE PA reminds me of my high school days in the late 70’s. Lacrosse practice started by running the hallways and migrated out to the parking lot after cars emptied out. Just normal in those days. Hopefully the Susquehanna ice doesn’t break up quickly or there will be serious...
