    469 haybine

a few things to consider. I burned thru bushings fast (8 acres) too. Caused by excessive heat and friction. The lower wobble bearing was shot, a lower post mentions, so check that. I had to take the wobble arm to the dealer as I could not get the old bearing out. It is an eccentric bearing and...

Allis-Chamlers old rake gear repaired and like new.

its kinda funny how some firms used a different set up. New Holland used a gearbox from the drive shaft to the basket. Here is a belt set up. Was it just to avoid patent infringement? Or somehow better? Obviously, in the hayfield, an enclosed gearbox would not get wrapped with hay.

    agco-hesston 3309 disc-bine

I recently paid $5,900 for a late grey NI 5209, which is the same machine. The roll's have worn flute edges, sheet metal very good, frame very good, no cracks or welds. The cutter bar drive shaft had been replaced and I spent $300 on all new knives, 1 bearing and 1 disk drive module housing.

potato and corn planting in PA

question: when the potato seed pieces drop down, I assume the eye sides are down, up, sideways, etc. Does it matter? I always hand plant them cut side down. How about a machine?

    NI 5209 mower

I mowed 2 acres of grass hay with my 'new to me' NI 5209 discbine. I recently replaced a disc drive housing, bearing, all the blades and nuts and filled up the gearbox, which was basically empty. It mowed very nice. I have been running a NH 469 haybine, so the extra speed is sweet. I does stick...

    Sisal twine dissapointment

several years ago I switched to 7200. This year I plan to use 9000 on the 1st cut and 7200 on 2nd / 3rd cut. They pack tighter. The 9000 I had got 5 years ago had thin spots and was very frustrating to blow up bales.

Hardest dang wood I ever cut!!

Elm is hard to split, hence it was used for wooden wheel hubs. Make poor firewood as it basically does not burn hot. I cut, split and burned many years ago, as they were constantly dying on the home place.

    Hows the hay crop

I have grass alfalfa mix in York Co, PA. I saw some alfalfa weevil last weekend, due to dry winter and dry March. Been raining fine last 3 weeks. The report says mow early as the March warm weather sped up the maturity speed.

New Holland baler tine bar sprocket question

If the race was still in, you are talking 1/16" to 1/8" thickness too small. How much too small? You can always use a small hobby grinding wheel in a drill to 'hone' it out some.

    Day off!

I heard 'O' say he wants to see these new buildings all over the country. At about $150 million each, where does he think that change will come from? I worked on one recently, so I know the price tag. What a wishful guy. And while he is at it, maybe I can get a spanking new 100hp John Deere...

Moving Lots of Water- (Pic Heavy)

I bought my 1st hay wagon at a dispersal auction held on that farm, actually, at least 20 years ago. The next 'operation' was trucking, right?

    Instant stop

I managed to break my wrist some years back hitting a stump that 'I' left too high. Cut all stumps flat. A serious safety policy of mine now.

    Amish buggies and visibility???

Driving near Lewistown, PA, yesterday, we saw two 'white' buggies. That's a new one to me.

Hard to find tools made in the USA

my better half says the USA is becoming like a soviet bloc country, crap tools and machines. Some truth to it, I never thought it would happen, but most suburban dwellers have no clue the quality this country turned out years ago. Very sad.

    foggy picture from scaffold

his shop makes you hate, but my neighbor's shop would make you break down and cry. A true work of art.
