    '78 2040 popping rear end

It does have a diff lock which seems to work well. I use it often without issue. I don't think that's what I'm hearing

    '78 2040 popping rear end

I have a '78 2040 with 145 loader, 950hrs that more and more lately is making a noise in the rear end that sounds like a combination of a pop and clunk which seems to me to be coming from inside the rear end. I can't be sure of location my left ear is deaf so locating sounds is unreliable...

Barring and timing tools for 2040

I have the turning tool JDE83 and timing pin JDE81-4 which my local JD dealer said is correct and ordered for me. I also have TM4300 which vaguely states "Timing pin will enter its hole in flywheel." By my understanding, the bolt hole just below the bore where the turning tool is inserted...

    Couple questions 2040 w/ 145 loader

'78 2040 with 145 loader I used the ports where the coolant heater is plumbed into the block to drain and flush but noticed a threaded plug in the lower front right of the block. Can anyone tell me what that's for? Also, is there a kit available to service the control valve of the loader or...

I have a '78 2040 serial number 291986 that I've been working on. I'd like to get a barring tool and timing pin. Engine tag says type 3164DL-04 Is JDE83 the correct barring tool for this engine? What timing pin is correct (JDE81-4 has been suggested to me) and where does it go? Are...

2040 oil in exhaust and clunk in final drive

Thank you both for the info. I read up on wet stacking and I agree that's likely it. Worried about working it hard because of the clunking noise though, hardest I've worked it was bush hogging 6 acres.

Hello all, been reading a while, first post... I have a '78 2040 with a 145 loader that sat for a decade plus and now I use it often for a range of chores. I did fluids, filters, new rear outer spin out rims, all new tires, some electrical repairs. Yet to do hoses and needs rust...
