Barring and timing tools for 2040

I have a '78 2040 serial number 291986 that I've been working on. I'd like to get a barring tool and timing pin. Engine tag says type 3164DL-04

Is JDE83 the correct barring tool for this engine?

What timing pin is correct (JDE81-4 has been suggested to me) and where does it go?

Are there other specialty tools one might recommend for this tractor?

Thank you

You're correct flywheel rotating tool is JDE83. I didn't locate timing pin number in TM 4300. Timing pin is to be inserted in bolt hole that holds inspection cover on flywheel housing & fits into a depression in flywheel.

I have the turning tool JDE83 and timing pin JDE81-4 which my local JD dealer said is correct and ordered for me. I also have TM4300 which vaguely states "Timing pin will enter its hole in flywheel."

By my understanding, the bolt hole just below the bore where the turning tool is inserted should be where the timing pin is inserted.

First issue, this timing pin is much smaller in diameter than the bolt hole so precise flywheel position at TDC doesn't seem possible. Second issue, there's a handful of spots where the timing pin drops into slots and on spot that seems to allow the pin to gradually insert then come to a stop - more of a potential pitfall than issue. Third issue, I can't find any degree marks on any rotating parts, how would one set advance on the IP without them?

Am I supposed to let the pin seat in the one spot, line up the single notch on the crank pulley with the ridge on the timing cover and call that #1 TDC? TM4300 says after first set of adjustments, rotate flywheel 360 degrees then do remaining adjustments. I'm not understanding how to make sure I'm not 360 out for first set. Guess I can check the rockers but seems like there's a better way. Makes the timing on a 12 valve Cummins seem way more well designed...
