unusual sighting but not a necessarily rare tractor

Different story than what I got. I was always told that the factory equipment at the MM plant was shot by the late 1960's. That it was nearly impossible to maintain a production schedule. The longer a tractor is on the assembly line the more it costs the manufacturer and hence the dealer with...

unusual sighting but not a necessarily rare tractor

I think that Randy was referring to the earlier Fiat-Olivers like the 1250. But there were other goofs beyond tractors. The 7600 combine did not have the greatest reputation in terms of durability. We had an Oliver 575 plow with the hydraulic reset bottoms and the support plates that bolted...

unusual sighting but not a necessarily rare tractor

I thought that going away from Perkins was an availability issue on the part of Perkins. That they could not guarantee availability as tractors were built. But nonetheless Oliver had new engines meant for a new line that could have been used. Going with Waukesha was a cheaper out for White so...

unusual sighting but not a necessarily rare tractor

White through Oliver had a chance to lead the farm equipment industry by the 1970's in terms of product innovation but blew it. White used farm equipment profits to fund other businesses that it did not stand a long term chance in such as large frame trucks. There was room for one of the...

unusual sighting but not a necessarily rare tractor

White's financial troubles prevented it from putting its best foot forward during the late 1970's. Although a lot of the products were good farmers worried about the future in terms of product support. The Iseki-Whites were just as good as the Fiat-Whites that they replaced. The HP crept up...

    Ford 850 Intake Leak

It may be possible the ether is pulling in other than where the manifold attaches to the cylinder head. The manifold may be lightly cracked. Like Doc said a smoke test may reveal a spot not obvious.

Seeking advice on John Deere 40

If a non-live PTO then an overrunning PTO coupler can be installed on the tractor PTO shaft to dissipate inertia/momentum from the mower so the tractor will readily slow down or stop if need be.

Literature---1966 John Deere "The Long Green Line" Full line Brochure. pt 1 Tractors

I don't think that I have ever heard of a beer and BBQ dealer promotion around here. The usual event was a pancake breakfast and if the customers were lucky there would be sausage, eggs, and orange juice included. When the bad times hit during the 1980's those promotions came to an end.

    4020 rear tires dilemmas

Can't speak for your area but if like around me in the Northeast used tires and rims are extremely difficult to find never mind something of significant quality.

JD 630 Steering shaft - Need some wisdom

Might want to post this down in the JD section on this site. Maybe a worm gear that requires threading it out versus a straight pull?

    What happened to pickups??

25 years is fairly optimistic for the Great Lakes region of North America. Impossible to wash and oil every nook, cranny, and crevice on any vehicle. I know people who have tried. Once the rust sets in it spreads out in short order. The tried and true method is to have the vehicle off of...

    adding hyd to JD D

A fellow I know thinks a later kit was offered for D's made 1939 and up versus being available in 1939, 1940, and up.

    adding hyd to JD D

Pretty sure the late D's had hydraulics as an option. If you don't care about it being original equipment a system could be built from scratch. Going by JD Parts Catalog Power Trol was offered from serial number 143800 (1939) onward as an option.

    Carb rebuild recommendation

A son or a nephew as I know who you are referring to. The recommendation to me was made to me not even two months ago and Aaron has been taking carbs over to Moravia for a while. My understanding is Dick does work on a wide variety of carbs.

    Carb rebuild recommendation

I've had Dick Stoyell in Moravia, NY recommended to do 2 cylinder carb work by A & L Parts which specializes in JD 2 cylinder tractors. Not a far drive for you.
