Anyone know anything about flail/green choppers? IH8

Ran one for a neighbor decades ago. OK chopper but did not like really wet material. Blower fan drove off of a belt so if wet it slipped but in general did not work great if wet material. Don't know if a faster fan speed would have helped but no inexpensive way to remedy that.

    Corn in truck got wet

I'd see if the elevator has a grain probe to assess moisture at a certain depth on your load. Do they have an end user that uses a trailer load of corn in a day or two? I've had good luck with disclosing to the elevator an issue with a wagon load of grain such as being above accepted dry...

It is amazing how naive some people are!!! Long rant.

No. You are thinking of John Saeli on the east side of Seneca Lake. I don't know much about George but enjoyed his contributions here and had a 1934 JD A. I was wondering if he sold it as such a tractor was at the Windmill auction in Penn Yan this past March.

It is amazing how naive some people are!!! Long rant.

Considering his saying that he did not have the easiest start during the late 1970's it would have been extremely hard to have survived the early 1980's without government payments. Easy for a multi-generation operation with no debt at the same time not to need assistance.

Closer to home have you ever met George by Geneva, NY and if he is still around?

It is amazing how naive some people are!!! Long rant.

Yeah, all the multi-generation so called conservatives around here that criticized anyone for being involved with government payments were found to be taking the same with very few exceptions. Probably one of the very few good points about the local newspaper in that any sizeable payments (over...

It is amazing how naive some people are!!! Long rant.

I want to say that with JD Seller that sometimes the memory is not what it used to be. Add to that a bit of stress that day and stress does not readily roll off as we age. I know a few here thought his whole life that he talked about here was one big story. I'm around a 1,000 miles away from...

I don't see a problem with digging up this thread if somebody wants to contribute to it or gather information. What may not interest one person may greatly interest another.

    JD A prices

John Deere A bringing more than a 730? Not around here. 4,000 dollars would be for a styled A with very good paint and tires. 5,000 would be for expo quality. A 1934 A with fairly good paint and tires sold at a local consignment sale this past March for 4,100 dollars. You might buy a very...

What do you know about railroads

Does your local law enforcement, fire department, or highway department have a different number for them that might prompt a quicker response?

What do you know about railroads

I'd start with a phone call to BN today. Call on a cell phone which would establish the day and time you made the call. Unless you are on a first name basis with your lawyer it may take a week or two just to set up a session for them to get started. To this point in time BN has not told you...

63 4010 with low power issue , perhaps

Good flow of fuel from the filter assembly going to the injector pump? You did the rebuild? You did not perhaps make a mistake in the rebuild?

    JD 2020 disk size

The tractor was rated for 54 HP at the PTO. Assuming no steep hills and no large wet spots to pull the tractor down then 10 ft would be satisfactory. The better the tread on the rear tires the more capable the tractor will be. If hills are under 8 percent slope then probably will be a gear...

    NH 890 chopper question

824 was made after the 890 was discontinued so probably not in original print material relative to the 890. NH while the 824 was in production required the order of what they called a bundle kit which means a kit for specific mount to a given harvester model. I've got an 890W head on a 790 so...

    Tell me about "the 80's"

Banks borrow from the Federal Reserve. The Fed raised rates to banks to cool 1970's inflation which were at the worst at the end of that decade. Retail borrowers may have paid 20 percent or more at the beginning of the 1980''s but its not like the banks were being charged a fraction of that...

    Seed corn

Check with area seed dealers. Some will have an economy variety. The big problem will be that most do not size seed for plate planters. Bags are typically 80,000 kernels which will plant 2-3 acres depending on drop rate.

    MF-65 Pros and cons??

The power steering and front axle were not the greatest for loader work. I say this having run one many years ago. For other jobs it would probably be OK although the hydraulics in general never impressed me. I'd keep looking.
