    Oliver 1600 bubbling coolant questions

Follow up and results post: Shop said 2 cracks found in injector holes that extended into the exhaust ports. 2 more cracks found that extended into the coolant jacket. Head gasket was leaking slightly. Pressure testing showed cracks need fixed. Its off to get furnace welded. Then back for...

    Oliver 1600 bubbling coolant questions

After pressure testing the system as best I could: No coolant in the oil pan. No coolant in the cylinders. Pulled the head and at least one of the coolant passages was plugged solid. The head is at the shop now. Pressure testing was performed as follows: [list:d6368d4715]Drained the...

    Replacement copper diesel return lines

When pulling the cylinder head on my 1600 diesel, I struggled with nearly all the copper return line nuts being rounded over. To change the nuts, it looks like I would need to cut and flare the pipes and then they would be too short. What does everyone do for replacements? Could i just use...

    testing water pump

Sounds good. I will clean it up, paint it and put it back on once the bubbling issue source is confirmed and resolved.

    testing water pump

Water pump off a 1600 Diesel. Casting 190460. It is off the tractor while I sort out my coolant bubbling issues as discussed in another thread. Is there any way to test if it is good or should be replaced/rebuilt while I have it off? It spins smooth. No bearing noise. It was not leaking either.

    Narrow swap to wide-front questions

Early Oliver 1600 diesel with a dual-wheel narrow front. I have a line on a wide-front from an 1850 being parted out. The wide-front is still attached to the 1850. My questions are: What all should I remove from the 1850 to move to the 1600? Any issues I should look for? Any other parts on an...

    Oliver 1600 bubbling coolant questions

I took the sheet metal all off and drained coolant below the thermostat housing. Pulled that and the thermostat I have from Stant is the wrong one. Good news is the old one (HRD model 180 deg.) opens right up when I put it in 180 degree water. The housing is the old model K386B. The number Stant...

    Oliver 1600 bubbling coolant questions

I will try to provide as much info as possible in reply: [list:378bdba584] J. Schwiebert: I will pressurize the system before I tear the head off and look for coolant afterward. If it gets down to removing the head, I will make sure the shop does a magnaflux and pressure test before any...

    Oliver 1600 bubbling coolant questions

Could you explain a bit more about how I will know if the seals are leaking? Would I hear it hissing inside the block? There is no water or coolant in the oil if that is any indication. I have a radiator pressure tester but there are holes in the radiator so that may not work for this test...

    Oliver 1600 bubbling coolant questions

Next up on my Oliver 1600 diesel tractor repair saga: Radiator spits out about a gallon of coolant while warming up. Then starts to get hot. Multiple symptoms. [list:1b7c33bfb1]Radiator has several pinhole leaks and if the radiator cap is tightened, it will spray coolant out the pinholes...

3-point hitch won't lift under load

Thanks. I will check the left side screw after work today. I have not checked the pressure. I will have to get some parts from TSC to do that. One of my first posts was about a missing spring in the hydraulic filter housing. Who knows how long it ran without really being filtered. It was...

3-point hitch won't lift under load

Turns out the bypass valve was screwed all the way in. I found the bleed screw (book calls them "Interlock Bleed Screws") and there are two. one on each side. Do both need to be screwed all the way in? The right side one may not have been seated. The sealing nut was frozen to the screw so...
