Hooking up ammeter on 1951 Ford 8N.

That's exactly how its wired; that is, the one wire alternator wire goes to the POS side of the ammeter, and the wire from the solenoid goes to the negitive side of the ammeter. The ammeter needle still hovers at the zero mark when the tractor is on and running hard. I will continue to check...

Hooking up ammeter on 1951 Ford 8N.

All my wiring is exactly like the diagram that JMOR provided in his diagram execpt the ammeter wiring. Mine is totally opposite as I followed a Youtube viseo provied by Dan and Rachel Gingell; title of video is >> Ford 8N SIDE Distributor Twelve Volt Conversion, 1950-1952 Model Years, Easy...

    Installing amp meter on 8N

On my 1951 8N 12 volt conversion tractor, negitive ground system, I installed a new ammeter purchased from a Ford tractor dealership. The needle flutters but doesn't move from zero. This is how I hooked it up. hooked up; The single wire from the alternator connects to the positive side. The...

best spark plug for an 8N

There's a Youtube video put out by AFCo that explains why you need the Autolite 216 plugs gapped at .020, and not the Autolite 437 gapped at .025. That the comparable Autolite 216 plugs will be the Champion H10, not the H12. Listen to what he explains and why, then make your decisions for...

    1951 *N key ignition problem,,,maybe

Thanks old for responding. My battery kept wearing out, and had to recharge it every month or so. I know not to keep the ignition switch on when I park it, and thought the key off turned off all electricity to the system. Yep, I probably changed the starter switch needlessly, but all is good...

    1951 *N key ignition problem,,,maybe

I went ahead to replace the ignition switch. It still can engage with the key off, but it doesn't really start That was a good excuse to take off the wires on the frebox and clean up all the copper metal, then attach the wires back onto the firewall. Still cranks very well.

    1951 *N key ignition problem,,,maybe

Got the 8N runnng well, and replacing the points, I noticed that with the ignition key off, the tractor still cranks when I hit the starter button. Do I have a bad ignition key (replaced 20 years ago) or is it the starter button? Thanks for responding...Philip This post was edited by Philco...

Tisco distributor cap (gold metal tips) and Tisco copper

What's the best brand distributor cap? And what is TSC...is that Tisco you are referring to, or Tractor Supply? I bought the wires from a auto parts store that sells tractor ignition parts. Usually they have a good reputation as a parts supplier. Tractor Supply doesn't even carry the usual...

Tisco distributor cap (gold metal tips) and Tisco copper

For my Ford 8N, I bought a combination tune up kit w/ 4 Autolites #437, rotor, condenser, points, and dist. cap in one white box, nothing sealed. I also bought separately a set of Tisco copper wires. Everything installed except the points. I found the wires did not quite fit properly only...

Radiator on 8N: Is this normal?

I was experiencing overheating, hot antifreeze spitting thru the cap and staining the hood, and loss of fluid to who knows where. Changing the water pump didn't help. Changed the exhaust gaskets (easy repair), motor oil (there's my antifreeze), drained and changed antifreeze, and finally put in...

    Slapping noise when under load

Hello Guys, Re.: Slapping noise when tractor under load. I will check for proper ignition, and maybe put a timing light to test it. But that tractor runs so great and starts up like electronic ignition with no hesitation. I gotta pipe I can use as a stethascope to hear internal noises near the...

    Slapping noise when under load

I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I cannot find my original inquiry, and I was not notified when people are responding to my questions. I will respectfully ask again. zMy 1951 Ford 8N is very quiet when in idle. But as soon as I put a load on it like pulling a mowing deck, the...

Do I replace antifezze from block after replacing head ga...

I guess a little oil in the radiator, if at all only helps the radiator to not corrode as quickly, I suppose. I was doing a head gasket replacement, and much antifreeze got into oil, so I drained oil, and installed a new oil filter. Replaced clean antifreeze but never considered the block...

Do I replace antifezze from block after replacing head ga...

After replacing my head gasket on the 8N, and the radiator was already drained and filled with new antifreeze, should I also drain the antifreeze from the block? I know when the head gasket blew, I was getting antifreeze in the oil and made it chocolatey, so I replaced the oil and oil filter...
