    3pt hitch

I have a John Deere 2240 tractor. My three point hitch cannot stay up with an implement on after the engine is shut off. It's slowly lowers itself until it's on the ground. Is this common or do I have a hydraulic leak somewhere around a seal? Any help would be appreciated.

    JD 2240 hydraulic fill

Maybe that's my problem. I checked the oil level, thanks to this forums help, and it appears full. However, when running a bush hog I noticed that sometimes my hitch would drop and I'd have to rev the engine up to lift the hitch back up again. In addition, I would lose power steering for a...

    JD 2240 hydraulic fill

I'll double check on the serial number on the tractor to be sure.

    JD 2240 hydraulic fill

I do have a dipstick on the right side below the seat (see photo JD2240_2). But is the cap as shown in the first photo (JD2240) for hydraulics or is it for transmission oil refill cap?

    JD 2240 hydraulic fill

Bought a used JD 2240 (1979) tractor last week and also purchased the operator’s manual on-line from JD. Very disappointed with manual (manual cost me $45.00 including shipping). I was expecting the manual to give me at least an illustration on where the location was to change the hydraulic...

    Dearborn 10-1 plowshare

My neighbor broke his share on his forward (outside) plow. We're trying to find a replacement part. Does anyone know where we could get one?

    IH 300 Utility Oil requirement

Thanks. I just put 10W-40 in the tractor, did a little plowing and the oil pressure gauge read the same as the SAE 30 before. I would of thought I would of seen a little higher oil pressure, but I guess there isn't that much of a difference. Thanks

    IH 300 Utility Oil requirement

I have a gasoline IH 300 Utility tractor. The original owners manual states using a SAE 20 for 32F to 85F air temp and SAE 30 for above 85F air temp. It also states to use SAE 10W below 32F air temp. My question is can I use standard automotive SAE 10W-30 oil? I would think you can, since...

    Rear tire valve stem identification/question

Thanks again to everyone. I finally gave up and had a professional come out and do both tires. Both tubes were shot. I think I lucked out though. The rims were still usable. I had to do a little plug welding in some areas, remove all corrosion with a wired wheel on a hand grinder and paint the...

    Rear tire valve stem identification/question

Thanks to everyone. I never replaced or needed to fill the rear tires before, so I didn't know what a standard rear tire stem look like. Thanks again for all the advice. :D

    Rear tire valve stem identification/question

I have a ballast (liquid) rear tire that is low on air. At the top of the stem contains a sphere that if you depress it it will release air (tire is rotated to position the valve stem at the top of the tire). It is appears to be a screw cap, that when you loosen it it will also leak air. It...

    IH 300 Utility Carburator

Thanks. Yes...I do notice a difference when I adjust the idle mixture screw.

    IH 300 Utility Carburator

Okay...thanks to everyone. Maybe I got my terminology mixed up. So it is the "idle mixture screw". But Pete, if it is mixing air and gasoline I would of thought it would starve the engine of fuel if completely closed..at idle of course. Rusty..the same if I unscrew it out...at idle. Not sure I...

    IH 300 Utility Carburator

I believe the needle valve on the carburetor is not the correct one. If I close it completely the engine keeps running. My question is how do you determine if you have the right needle valve, or if the needle or orifice in the carburetor is worn? I can make a new needle valve, or ream the...
