Ferguson to 30 Backfires accerateing and idles fine

Also check for bad dist cap , points and condensor , and loose carp or manifold leak . A lean mixture will make a motor backfire .

    stuck in neutrul

Hmmm . Not much to go on . Motor running . Motor not running. If running , it must have moved to the S position . If running , clutch disc might be rusted to flywheel , therefore the clutch won't dis engage and needs to be broke loose . Could be that clutch linkage has come loose some place...

    Stiff crankshaft in replacement

Did you check the bearing clearance with Plastiguage before final installation ? Did you use the correct torque ? I would probably take the crank in and have it polished and checked for size and straightness . Good luck

    Ferguson TO 20

A couple of the posts have located the timing mark and hole . To static time it , ( old V.W. manuals explain this procedure real well ) Determine where the mark is on the flywheel and bring the number one piston up on the COMPRESSION stroke untill the flywheel timing mark is on the stationary...

    TO-20

If it has been run out of oil , and it has a knock now , it will either be a rod bearing , or a main bearing . If you run it , you will only do more damage to the crankshaft , and possibly the block . If you spin a rod bearing , it will probably break a rod and that will probably do damage to...

    TO20 backfires thru carb

New head . Could be intake valve adjusted to tight . Could be lean due to carb ,or vaccuum leak beause of carb to manifold or manifold to head gasket leak , or a cracked intake manifold . Old or bad gas . Points set wrong or to much slop in distributor . Bad condenser . Timing . A compression...

    TO-30 further update

You said , on your first post that the compression was good . A bad valve or valve spring would mess up the compresssion . Your cylinder readings all seemed good and close . A bad exhaust manifold gasket would make it noisy .A bad intake manifold gasket ,or Carb. flange gasket , or cracked...

    TO-30 up-date

Check for a loose intake manifold nut or a bad intake manifold gasket . Did you screw some thing up when you did the tune up . Check point gap . Check for a bare wire or some such in the distributer . Vaccuum leak and lean mixture will cause a backfire . You have good compression , so it is...

red hot exhaust .. is it normal

Lean condition can be caused by a vacuum leak caused by cracked intake manifold , or a loose manifold ( a visual inspection might show this ) , a loose carb , or maybe a sediment bowl with the shut off almost closed . Check the easy stuff first . Check the timing . ? check for the right spark...

red hot exhaust .. is it normal

That sounds like a lean condition . Does it idle bad . Could be a bad intake manifold gasket , or mismatch or cracked manifold . Could be incorrect timing if it is also overheating . Maybe a loose carb . I have had this happen on a old chevy 6 that I rebuilt . Failed to install the intake...

Gas tank filling problem when a loader is installed

Just food for thought Have seen mention of having to butcher the hood or leave it off when a front end loader has been added . Why not install a fuel guage and use a electric or a manuel pump to fill the tank . Just a thought Have a good day R.L.Hull , N.Y.

    TO-30

You say it has good compression . You say it will run when you hold the choke out . Try running a line from some kind of temporary gas container . Will leave the type up to you . Be carefull . Don't burn tractor or shop down .Run the line straight to the carb . This will eliminate the...
