Looking at a golden jubilee today

Well, I went and looked at it. The good: The tires were really decent. The bad: Most everything else The ugly: Brought a battery from my trusty 8N. Hooked it up and he added fuel to the tank. Immediately, the glass bowl located before the carb started pouring gasoline out. Did a...

Thanks. That's what I'm looking for. I will have better info this afternoon when I go look at it.

Looking at a golden jubilee today

I'm in North Texas. My wife's son-in-law has a jubilee with a working brush hog he want's to sell us. The brush hog works fine. The tractor needs a battery. The only thing I know about it is it needs carb work and the battery. It sounds like the float is sticking, or a fuel delivery problem...

    Newbie with some questions

Yes, all 3 for the hydraulic. The rear end, hydraulic pump, and transmission all share the fluid. I use the full mineral oil called for in the service manual, available at Tractor Supply, but others here use other oils. Yes, naturally the engine oil is a separate drain.

If I recall correctly, 5 gallons of hydraulic oil. Drain all 3. I had my pump out, so it was a good time to clean out the 70 years worth of gunk in there. Get it as clean as possible before refilling it. With the round cover that contains the dipstick off, it will be full when fluid starts...

    8N sputtering under load

My guess would be electrical. I recently had a kind of similar situation that turned into a loose coil wire. It was the wire that is similar to the plug wires going to the distributor.

    K.I.S.S.

Yes, that's right. Keep It Simple Stupid! Yesterday I was using the 3 point scrape blade to clear where we had been feeding round bales, and it was built up with old, soggy, rotted hay. The 8N was running great until about 1/2 way through the job. It started missing a bit, and popping...

How NOT to fix a hydraulic issue on an 8N

How NOT to fix a hydraulic issue on an 8N

I have a 1949 8N. I also have no 8N experience. Actually, I have no tractor experience. In the last 5-6 weeks or more since the arrival of "Hank", I have done some minor improvements in the engine department including fixing the governor oil leak, installing the correct plug wires, repairing...

New here, looking for some input.

So I replaced the alternator suspecting the old one had an issue. No matter what RPM, the voltmeter only read 12V. After the new one was installed, the voltage went up to what it should be, but only after high idle RPM. After sitting, same thing, except it only takes about 1/2 throttle to...

Great that it worked for you! I'm hoping that without too much expense, and some elbow grease, I will get mine working too.
