WD45 bits of metal in cylinder

My '57 WD45 was hitting on 3 cylinders. I pulled the plugs and found #2 had a mangled electrode. Replaced the plug and same thing happened almost immediately. Not good. I got a bore scope, looked inside and saw what looked like two 1/4" dia ball bearings in the power crater (recess in top...

    Water pump noise?

I'm getting a chirping/warbling sound form the front of my WD45. Pretty sure its the water pump going bad but wanted to check with guys who know this stuff better than I do before I start tearing in to it. Is that sound typical of a bad pump? Thanks

    Work gloves

Hey guys, who makes the most durable work gloves these days? I don't need the fancy ones that I can use with a touch screen, I need the type that hold up to weathered shovel handles, concrete block, and other rough stuff. White Mule used to be good but last pair I bought the stitching pulled...

    WD45 3 bolt wide front

I have a WD 45 with a 3 bolt wide front (probably was on a WD originally). One, maybe two of the three 5/8" bolts that hold the pivot plate are stripped. My question: Is there enough metal there to drill it out and tap for 3/4" bolts?

    Witte 6 HP

Thanks Bob--good idea. Not going to be a show piece though. This guy is going to do some real work pumping irrigation water. Not a lot, just for a couple of acres--also want to make the local water commissioner (water cop) scratch is head a mite! Don't worry, not going to overload a rare...

    Witte 6 HP

I just hauled home a nice 6 HP Witte and want to put it to work driving a 12" Witte centrifugal pump.(Never got around to hooking it up to the 3 HP Lister) The pump as a 4" wide by 4" diameter flat belt pulley. The engine has no drive pulley mounted. What would be the recommended diameter...

Right size engine for a pump

Ken/Butch: Thanks for your comments! Ken: You sure seem to know your stuff when it comes to pumps and thanks for your calculations. I am familiar with pump performance curves in general, having used them with regard to a modern Berkeley pump. I poked around the internet and couldn't...

Right size engine for a pump

Unfortunately Ken I have zero info about the pump and Googling brings up nothing. Given how it was mounted it was probably powered by something about 5 HP, but who knows if that was original. Given the 12" dia. impeller it was probably designed for relatively low RPM. I want to use it for...

Right size engine for a pump

I have a Witte L-3 centrifugal pump and am wondering the right size engine to match to it. The pump has a 12" diameter impeller, 3" inlet/outlets bushed down to 2", flat belt drive pulley 4" wide x 3" diameter. When I bought it, it was mounted on an engine cart with a hand pull so the...

    question for you cattle guys

It was his wife who unwittingly told me my heifer calf was the twin of a bull calf. She is the keeper of the calf record book but I do not believe she is aware that this twinning causes freemartinism. I also verified this with the owner of the bull twin who knew there was a heifer twin but...

    question for you cattle guys

The seller was fully aware that I had no experience with cows, that I intended to breed her, and that I was relying on his expertise. I paid him $500. As for the calf bought at auction ($400) I agree--caveat emptor--and I do not know yet that she is freemartin. She could be fine.

    question for you cattle guys

One year ago I knew virtually nothing about cows but I thought the best way to learn is to own a couple and in the future breed them on a small scale. So I bought an orphan 4 week old angus/charolais female calf from a local rancher and a week later I bought another two day old female orphan...

Is it true with twin calves that if one is male and one is female the female will be infertile?

    skidsteer hydraulics

Posting a reply to my own question in the hope that it might help others. I did more research and found this is a pretty common problem. Several manufacturers already make a coupling with built in pressure relief so I guess I won't get rich by inventing one. Holmbury Hydraulics has a nifty...
