    Ford 5000

I looked long and hard for tractor wheel weights and suitcase weights for the bumper. Finally gave up nd built my own. Not pretty , but do a fine job for what they were designed to do. I will bet freight from Chester,NH is a real budjet buster

    Ford 5000

That is my home made 150# sand filled front counterweight. A real PIA to mount and dismount, so it stays attached most of the time. Keeps the front wheels on the ground when hauling rotary tiller, auger and boom pole.

    Ford 5000

Great looking tractor. I have a real soft spot for the older Fords as Dad was a Ford tractor dealer in the late 60's. These are my 2 restores so far.

    Ford 5000

Sheet metal is a real PIA, but the aftermarket stuff is getting better so you don't have to redrill every mounting hole. The 3000,4000 and 5000 were absolute beasts with diesel engines and H/L tranny. My 1970 model 4000, 55 HP, actually uses less fuel per hour when operating the PTO at 540 rpm...

    Buying Seconds

There is nothing wrong with using chemically restored or surfaced batteries in your equipment. Most lead acid batteries will require reconditioning in 2-3 years from purchase due to the sulfonation process. This is a pretty simple process, but it is nice to have the reference materials on hand...

    Welder

I heartily agree. I also have 2 MIG's with gas for indoor, a120 and a 230 volt, and a 230 v flux core/ DC arc / TIG combination for out doors, and a Miller 225 AC( my first welder that still works great) with 220 ft of lead and 225 ft of ground. The AC machine produces a better weld with 7018 ...

    cordless vs 110 power

You can refurbish a Li ion battery but the procedure is totally different. You need a good battery pack to refurbish an old one. You hook the good to the bad and monitor the voltage every minute or so. When the old pack gets to within 2 volts of its rating, put it on the charger and it should...

    Time to move on

I lost 3 very good college friends in one year due to motorcycle accidents, non of which was their fault. We had a lot of great times riding every weekend, rain or shine. But it was time to retire as the average motorist has no respect for a motorcycle rider. Its been over 30 years now, but I...

    Must be Monday!

This doesn't look right. Maybe I should take a closer look.

    Welder

I have a variety of welders for various purposes. 120 volt MIG 120 and inverter 100 amp DC. Good to carry to remote locations within 200 ft, the length of my 10 ga extension cord. a 220 volt MIG 100 amp MIG, old technology, a 220 volt MIG, DCARC 250 amp inverter combo with 35 ft of 220 8 ga...

    Opinions

The rule of thumb is if the fire was hot enough to vaporize the oil out of the motor, tranny and rear end, they are damaged beyond use. My FIL learned this when he bought 2 David Browns burnt in a fire. Front of one and rear on another. Everything was good until he got to the tranny. Both were...

    Causes of barn fires

Do not put a lightening protection on the barn. My FIL put a lightening protection system on an equipment storage shed per local code recommendations. The lightening protection system was installed by a licensed electrician. 2 years later, the lightening rods attracted the lightening from a...

    cordless vs 110 power

If you take a DC welder set at 75 amps and cross the charging posts, you will bring the battery pack back to almost new condition. Do not use a welding rod. I use a nail on each lead. Just tap the one post while holding contact with the other. May have to tap the one side 8-10 times to break the...
