    lift arms and rocker shaft

I"ve seen a couple of references to "removing the shaft on the correct side" and " the shaft comes out of the side with the quadrant". I don"t see any references to that in the service manuals and I was curious as to where that came from. Of course the only arm I could get off of the shaft is...

    lift arms and rocker shaft

I'm going through the hydraulics on my 49 8N. Ibthink water was my main problem because I used the "back out the drain plug until only a couple of threads hold it in" trick and got about a gallon and a half out it. The oil that remained looked like a caramel smoothie so I drained it all and...

    8N Coil

BRUCE, I EXPECT THAT YOU'RE EXACTLY RIGHT AND THAT THE QUALITY IS, HOPEFULLY, INSURED BY HIGHER STANDARDS. I WAS JUST AMUSED BY THE IRONY AND COULDN'T RESIST MAKING THE COMMENT

    8N Coil

I've run across several posts about being careful when you buy a coil online because of the quality issues that have surfaced surrounding the "cheap made in China" coils. As a result, when my coil died I went to the local Ford tractor dealer and paid twice as much as I could have online for an...

    I need a mechanic! 49 8N

Is the govenor trying to increase the RPMs? If it's just dieing under load, it could be because the engine is not being told to rev up to compensate for the drop in engine speed. If the govenor is working then it's a different can of worms and we're back to the process of elimination.

49 8N Dies at full throttle

Does it start to die immediately? Or after it has run at full throttle for a minute or two? If it's immediate, I'd go with Dell and back out the vertical screw a half turn or so at a time untill it runs right. If it's after it runs for a little bit check you fuel feed.

    8N Lift Problem

Actually Hadensville. Richmond is the closest "Big City" so I grabbed it for an identifier. Since just plain Ron was already taken, I was forced to get creative!

    8N Lift Problem

Zane, The behavior of the lift is the same in either the up or down position of the draft control lever. I'm alsmost willing to bet that the cam follower pin is completely worn through basically doing away with the draft control function. No pin to cam contact = no movement in control rod = no...

    8N Lift Problem

Makes sense. I may do that to get me to the winter and do a rebuild then if the lift will raise it that long. Thanks.

    8N Lift Problem

Hi. I bought an 8N a few weeks ago for bush hogging. The lift leaks down two minutes or so after I disengage the PTO and I know enough to pull the side cover, look for leaks, and probably replace the piston and rings in the lift cylinder, just haven't done it yet. The problem I have has to do...
