I've run across several posts about being careful when you buy a coil online because of the quality issues that have surfaced surrounding the "cheap made in China" coils. As a result, when my coil died I went to the local Ford tractor dealer and paid twice as much as I could have online for an "original equipment" coil. When I got home and pulled it out of the box what should be on the sticker but, you guessed it, Made in China!

It's working well so far.

I'd like to think that the extra cost was because of the 'quality control' inspections demanded by dealers like CNH. It's not so much a matter of where it's made but the insistence on the part of the vendor that the part meet OEM specs.

I'm old enough to remember when "Made in Japan" meant junk. Either the Japanese improved the quality of their exports on their own initiative or US importers started QC inspections & refused to accept junk no matter how low the price was. We're going to continue to import cheap crap from China as long as people continue to buy it. My guess (and it's only a guess) is that well known & respected US firms aren't going to knowingly sell inferior products subject to warranties.

Maybe I'm just overly optimistic.........

BRUCE,

I EXPECT THAT YOU'RE EXACTLY RIGHT AND THAT THE QUALITY IS, HOPEFULLY, INSURED BY HIGHER STANDARDS.
I WAS JUST AMUSED BY THE IRONY AND COULDN'T RESIST MAKING THE COMMENT

the sad reality is that likely all them coils are made in china.

hopefully as bruce mentions.. it's a get what you pay for due to QC.. etc.

the chinese are capable of making very high quality parts.. and very low quality parts.. and will build to whatever quality ands spec the customer will specify and pay for.
