    Bendix Problem

    Just bought a new starter with Bendix for the 9N. Took it out of the box, turned the bendix and it extended out and now won't retract. If I install it that way it appears that the pinion will never retract off of the ring gear. Only has less than 1/4" of travel now. What happened?
