No Spark on the 9N

Well I had what some here called a "weak spark", so I installed new points, cap, rotor and hotter plugs on my 9N with front distributor. Now I have NO spark.

I get 12.63 volts to the coil with the key on, and also did a continuity check through the points to verify that the points were making contact properly. It is a new 12 volt coil that worked fine last week.

So I don't know what my next step should be. Is the coil working properly? Should the terminal be able to turn on the coil or did I break some sort of internal connection when I tightened the nut and the terminal turned? How can I test the coil to eliminate that possibility? I do have the old 6 volt coil and a resistor so I can try installing it.

I would check with the 6 volt coil and resistor---you didn't remove the ballast resistor did you? if you did I would put it back on. another thing you can do is stretch the pigtail on the coil to make sure it is making good contact. if all else fails go back to where you started is what my dad used to tell me, still doesn't make it fun though.

did you just check for fire at the points or do a actual continuity test with a ohm meter?what does your voltage at top of coil do when points are closed and dist is installed on tractor?you can do a continuity test with dist off tractor, but you really cant do a voltage test unless you run a ground wire from - post of battery to dist case.few things to check, start by cleaning points, some have a coating on them.next change condenser, your weak spark could point to this to start with. coil spring is a likely candidate for no spark.rotor or cap also.

Turns out it was the coil. Reading an open wherever I would check. Put the old coil and resistor on and then she fired right up. I guess the Chinese coil just wasn't up to the task.

Anyways, getting 34 psi oil pressure and she sounds pretty good. Now to get her off the trailer and see if everything else works.
