    MH55 engine question

My question is about the engine coding. So I bought a 55 gas today. I noticed that a above the serial number on the engine instead of just saying J382 it says 1JA382G. Of course I figure J is obviously the engine series and G is for gas and 382 is the displacement but does the 1 and the A mean...

A buddy of mine has one he's not doing anything with. I doubt he would part with it. Worse case scenario I can always put the spare motor for my sawmill in it, a D1145 Caterpillar Diesel. Im going to try to do what I can with what's in it first though.

That was something else. The Continental 382 was also available as a 403. Which is just a .125 overbore. I had thought about just putting in that kit, however, I have never seen any cylinder parts for sale for a 403 or anything listed as an overbore kit.

They might be beyond hope but I'll find out eventually. I've rebuilt engines before just had never had one that was stuck let alone this bad. Wanted to see what others had used for penetrant or what they had done to get them unstuck.

This is what I've been hoping for best case scenario. Ive got the 2 engines and was hoping to be able to save 4 sleeves between the 2. From what I've read the original flat top pistons are the same except the diesel has a 5th ring. Not certain about the difference in the pistons that are...

I do agree with you. Ive never rebuilt an engine that the piston kit alone was over $3k. Im having a little trouble with that price I guess. What puzzles me is the gas piston kit listed on jensales is over $3k and the diesel kit is around $1600.
